Woodley was denied a share of the points when their achilles heal of being unable to defend set pieces resulted in Chalfont scoring the winning goal as the game entered second half stoppage time. On this occasion Chalfont’s prolific goal scorer Fred Tripp was left unmarked in the penalty area and he responded first to a cleared corner to fire home.
Until this goal, the home team’s second half performance merited a draw as they levelled Chalfont’s first half goal as they played with greater tempo than in recent weeks and in the opponents half of the pitch which saw both debutant Luke Nichols and Tyrone May hit the woodwork during the second period.
Chalfont enjoyed the better of the first half with the lively Stephan Bignall causing Woodley’s defence problems and it was no surprise he opened the scoring on twenty two minutes out sprinting the back four before giving Ben Hitchins no chance with his finish.
With May playing further forward form midfield, he was to have a greater influence on Woodley’s play in the second half as forwards Tim Green and SF Media man of the match Nichols were enjoying success and it was no surprise that both were involved in the equaliser on seventy five minutes. Green found himself in possession of the ball on the right wing and his cross to Nichols saw the latter’s effort blocked but fall to Rupen Limbu to score from twelve yards.
Although the equaliser spurred Wasps and the influential Brad Hoy was replaced through injury resulting in a reshuffle of the back four, Hitchins was not troubled until Tripp’s late intervention.
