United made light of a wet evening with a strong wind blowing across the pitch to produce arguably their best performance of the season.
Under new management for the fixture Bedfont kicked off with the visitors nervy for the opening ten minutes which was understandable with two starting players making their debuts and one returning from an injury after a seven week layoff.
Despite the start the hosts created one chance that hit the crossbar only for the lead up play to be penalised for an off-side offence. However, United were lucky in the thirteenth minute when Alex Londors rushed out of the penalty area to make a clearance only to miss the ball that was subsequently cleated by Josh Nwokobia.
From that moment on, Woodley took control of the match. Following a pass from debutant Alex Donville. Connor Richardson saw a goal bound shot cleared over the cross bar for a corner kick to be followed by Tahir Carmichael being allowed to run from midfield and see his shot hit the base of Sam Bersey’s left hand post.
A corner in the eighteen minute saw United score the first of three goals in a eight minute spell. Connor Suckling’s kick was turned into the net by another debutant John Openibo in a goalmouth scramble.
The twenty second minute saw an Openibo shot deflected for a corner which Richardson took and Suckling scored from close range. Openibo scored his second with a shot on the edge of the penalty area after receiving Donville’s pass.
Richardson was proving a threat on Woodley’s left wing and won a free kick on the edge of the penalty area in the thirty fourth minute that Suckling took and beat the home wall only for Bersey’s diving save push the ball away for another corner. Shortly afterwards Suckling saw another free kick blocked for a corner.
As the half approached an end Mo Davies conceded a free kick deep in the Woodley half which the visitors comfortably defended the ball into their penalty area.
With players tiring in the conditions the second half was played at a slower pace with fewer goal scoring opportunities. Woodley’s Alex Londors made a good save to concede a corner kick which was followed by Openibo completing his hat trick in the sixty eight minute. Bersey parried a long range shot which Openibo unchallenged reacted quickest and showing deft skill controlled the ball and calmly shot pass the stranded keeper.
Centre back Mark Williams saw his goalwards shot, following another corner, cleared for a throw in with eight minutes of normal time remaining. The final goal came in the eight nineth minute when a driving run by Mackenzie Creech saw the midfielder pass to substitute Kevin DeBarros on the right wing from where he ran with the ball before curling a shot pass Bersey and into the far top corner of the goal.
A minute into stoppage tine Bersey dived low to prevent DeBarros scoring a second as Woodley finished the game with a flourish of positive play.
