A tight game was decided by well struck goal in first half stoppage time and a penalty late in the second half.
Woodley started promisingly with Sid Gbla’s pass splitting the home defence for Connor Sucking to run onto but the forward struggled to control the ball in the second minute to be followed shortly afterwards by the lively Connor Richardson beating a defender before seeing his shot smothered by home keeper Ben Parslow.
This was the story of Woodley’s first half play with wingers Richardson and McCoy Palmer threatening with good runs the defence but Woodley unable to capitalise on the final ball into the penalty area.
Yateley were similar in their play giving Killian Barratt little to do in his goal and it was evident that a mistake or a well struck shot would lead to the opening goal and this was the case four minutes into first half stoppage time. Woodley cleared a corner to edge of their penalty area where home captain and right back struck his shot into the top right hand corner of the visitors’ goal. Despite Barratt dive seeing him get a hand on the ball he could not prevent it from entering the net.
The opening quarter hour of the second half saw Woodley enjoy a good spell, with Palmer shooting at Parslow who also denied Suckling, Gbla getting between two defenders to head wide and Parslow parring a Palmer shot that Suckling was unable to poke into the net from close range.
Yateley weather this pressure and were dangerous on the counter attack that needed Barratt to twice clear from outside his penalty area. It was a similar move late in the second half that resulted being adjudged to have denied a goal scoring opportunity, concede a penalty and be dismissed. Harry Wilcox scored from the spot in the eighty-eighth minute past Dan Watkiss who donned the gloves for the remainder of the match.
