On a frosty evening United exited the Esoteric Recordings cup in a match where they enjoyed plenty of possession in the opponent’s half of the pitch but whereas Yateley took its goal chances Woodley failed to do so.
The visitors kicked off but went behind to Yateley’s first attack of the game in the second minute when the hosts worked the ball down their right before putting a low cross from the goal line into the Woodley penalty area which Oli Burke converted from close range in the second minute.
Undeterred Woodley with Dylan Clark and Ramon Rose lively on both wings but balls they played into the home penalty area were comfortably dealt with by Yateley’s defence. Jerimiah Debayo put a free kick over the host’s cross bar while good play between Clark and Nathan Mindomba resulted in the former’s low cross narrowly evading the oncoming Yuro Cardoso.
Just as they looked to be getting back into the match, Woodley found themselves two goals behind in the seventeenth minute when a long goal kick by home goalkeeper Ben Parslow was headed into the path of Sam Head to outrun the defence and shoot past the advancing Jake Simpson in the Woodley goal.
Woodley continued to enjoy good possession with debutant Eldad Adjei getting forward from midfield and left back Filip Podgorski lining well in offensive play and also seeing a shot go over the crossbar. The half finished with Rose putting another low cross into the penalty area for it to be cleared.
Five minutes into the second half Simpson prepared to catch a cross, however it was deflected and causing the keeper to dive for the ball and In doing so was adjudged to have foul a forward to concede a penalty which Finlay Scott converted.
The visitors changed formation and again were positive in forward play, showed good skill on possession forcing a number of corners. A long pass form Yateley’s right back was headed by a defender into the path of Oli Burke to add a fourth with twelve minutes remaining.
The scoring was completed when a cross ball pass found Clark on the left. The winger played the ball into the goal area where the ball fell to Ousman Debayo to score his first goal for the team from close range.
