United replicate scoreline from Tuesday running out 3-1 winners

Woodley made the trip to Chinnor on a rainy Saturday knowing three points would take them off the foot of the table.

Just thirty seconds into the game a Chace Jewell delivery was punched clear to Freddie Barron who volleyed over as United started on the front foot.

The home side’s best passage of play came early on. Ben Knowler had an effort blocked by Jono Malone whilst another shot from Knowler and one from Ben Morgan were easily dealt with by Tom Bryant in the Woodley goal.

Fifteen minutes in and with the weather worsening, United had a couple of half chances. Sam Guze’s free kick was headed goalwards by Luke Axton-Hall forcing Chinnor keeper Ben Taunton into a routine stop whilst Barron missed the target after Jewell had a shot blocked.

Midway through the half saw Taunton pull off a decent save with his legs to deny Max Laschok who had been put through by Pablo Fernandez. The ball broke to Guze whose effort hit a defender and went behind for a corner which came to nothing.

Both sides then traded opportunities in similar fashion from sublime crosses. Morgan’s delivery from the left saw two Chinnor players throw themselves at the cross with neither making contact before Jewell, who had swapped wings with Barron, whipped in a ball from the right that just evaded Guze who had timed his run from midfield to perfection.

The final chance of a half played in difficult conditions saw Fernandez pick out Toby Briggs with a low cross. Unfortunately, the Woodley forward didn’t make significant contact with the ball, allowing an easy save for Taunton.

HT Chinnor 0-0 Woodley United

Six minutes after the restart saw United presented with a great opportunity to go ahead when a Guze drive was blocked by a Chinnor player’s arm in the box. Guze stepped up and just like Tuesday evening beat the goalie with a low shot from twelve yards into the right corner.

The second half was all Woodley. Guze had a free kick go into the wall whilst Laschok saw his shot from a tight angle on the left blocked by a decent sliding tackle.

Laschok then shot over after Briggs had got up well to head on a long ball before Briggs missed to the right from eighteen yards as United upped the pressure.

With twenty one minutes left, Woodley made a change when Harry Hawkins came on for Briggs. This saw Ferndandez play up top alongside Laschok, Guze play just behind the front two and Hawkins join Adam Barnard who ran the game in central midfield.

United doubled their advantage on seventy three minutes when Laschok fired into the left corner from the right side of the box. Two in two for Laschok who made a real difference when he came off the bench at Aldermaston in midweek.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic though. Axton-Hall put his body on the line to block a powerful shot by Chinnor substitute Charlie Surman.

Woodley got their third with nine minutes to go courtesy of the goal of the game. Getting on the end of a perfectly weighted Jewell through ball, Barron got his first for the club with a neat finish past Taunton into the right corner.

Before the hosts could kick off United made a further change; Pele Hagger replaced Fernandez.

Chinnor pulled one back on eighty three minutes when a lofted ball split the away defence allowing Knowler to beat Bryant from fifteen yards.

As the game entered the final five minutes, Woodley had a good opportunity to restore their three- goal cushion when Laschok and Hawkins combined. Unfortunately, the latter missed to the left from inside the box.

With the match in added time, United made a final change when Jewell made way for Ross Blakemore.

Seconds later the ref blew up as Woodley’s good run continues. Four away wins on the trot and five victories from the last seven for Laugharne and Purbrick productions.
