After a 3 week break the Vets returned to action and came home with the 3 points away to Didcot Vets

After a 3 week break the Vets were back in action with a first ever away match at Didcot Town Vets, the game had survived the torrential downpours of the last few days, Utd were missing a keeper so Jon Norris took on the role of keeper and skipper Jim Nightingale was on a night out with the wife.

Utd welcomed back Adam Giles who has been out injured, Scott Allaway after a lengthy ban and injury and a first place in the squad for Richard Wallis on the bench.

Utd started the game sluggishly which was probably down to a shortage of game time and Didcot started the stronger and took the lead whilst on top when they intercepted a pass upfield from Utd, the ball was played into the Didcot forward Gavin Jones who was initially halted by Mark Walker at the back, the ball broke loose and a one-two was played and the result was a lobbed finish by Jones over the Utd keeper Norris. 1-0 Didcot.

Woodley have been here before and reacted really well to going a goal down and relaxed and started to play some football and Dean Morrison went close at the back post to equalising from a Loic Srodawa cross, Paul Gibson skipper for the night sent in a few teasing crosses that Utd failed to convert back Gibson was key for the equaliser when his great through ball from the right side down the throat of the centre backs released Loic Srodawa who made no mistake slotting it down the side of the keeper.

A couple of changes were made at half time to freshen up the team and Utd came firing out of the blocks but couldn't find a way past the Didcot defence.

Jose Gomez went close from a free-kick that looked to be going in until a head deflected it out for a corner, Paul Ulrich turned well in the box and his shot also destined for the net until a superb defensive block looped it over the bar.

Woodley by this stage were in total control and Didcot changed formation for the second time in the game to try and get a foothold in the game.

With about 15 minutes to go Woodley took the lead when Wayne Clarke won the ball on the edge of his box, broke forward and sent a delightful ball through the Didcot backline for Loic Srodawa to bear down on goal and although his initial shot was saved he made no mistake the with second opportunity.

5 minutes later it was 1-3 to Woodley when Loic Srodawa got free again in the box, this was one scrappy with a number of rebounds leaving Srodawa with a free hit with bodies littered on the deck to claim the match ball (he didn't get to keep it) and his first hat trick of the season.

FT Didcot Town Vets 1-3 Woodley Utd Vets

A superb result against good opposition who we did well to nullify as they were dangerous on the break with Gavin Jones up top a particular threat with his pace and direct running, Wayne Clarke picked up the MoM for his work in midfield but Crabby alongside him was equally superb last night.
