The Vets started the defence of the cup they won last season with an opening league cup group stage defeat to Div 1 Watlington Town OB's, Watlington always give the Vets a tough game and this was no different.
Utd started the better and went close twice through Loic Srodawa and Danny Young and had a few corners without really troubling the keeper.
It was from one of Utd's breaks that Watlington took the lead when they hit on the counter and got 3 on 3 and the low cross across the box was fired past Jon Norris for 1-0.
Before Utd had a chance to regroup they found themselves 2-0 down when they failed to close the centre midfielder down who from just past the halfway line saw the keeper off his line and took aim and despite his best efforts tracking back Jon Norris couldn't keep it out 2-0.
Jon Norris was then called upon twice making great saves but then a messi style run from the Watlington forward saw him skip past 3 or 4 challenges before finding himself 1 on 1 with the keeper and he made no mistake for 3-0.
HT 3-0
Utd regrouped at half time and was a much-improved side in the second half and created a fair number of chances but couldn't find a way past a resolute Watlington back line.
Wayne Clarke thought he had scored from a low free kick but the keeper tipped it wide.
Overall a poor performance and the first for a long time, home to Benson next in the cup and a response will be expected.
FT 3-0
MoM - Give it a miss this week.
