Woodley’s opening home game of the new season was a disappointing affair which saw the hosts go behind in the fifth minute and while they levelled the scores, struggled to find a second equaliser.
Newbury played the ball out wide and the subsequent cross was met by Ellenore Reed whose header into the right top corner left Woodley’s Carly Chilton no chance.
After this nervous start United got into the game with Freya Jenkins prominent in the forward play but it needed Chilton to first make a block with her feet, punch a corner clear and parry a shot before centre back Ellen Surtees levelled the score on twenty one minutes with a twenty five yard strike following a Newbury clearance of a Woodley corner.
The closed the home team came to a further goal in the half was three minutes from the break when Surtees free kick was saved by Erin Davis-Donne in the Newbury goal.
Woodley started the second half in a positive manner but a mistake in midfield on fifty nine minutes resulted in Gabriely Da Silve slotting pass Chilton when one on one to score what would be the winning goal.
Jodie Penny saw a shot through a crowded penalty area blocked while Faye Ward cleared a Rachel Arkwright shot over her own cross bar before Mollie Lambourne had a shot cleared, another go over the cross bar and narrowly fail to reach a Rosie Page-Smith cross in the closing minutes of the match.
