Faye's goal seals win against neighbours Barton Rovers.

United made it two wins in the Premier Division to be one of three teams with a hundred percent record after two games and sit in third place on goal difference.

Playing with the wind in the first half Woodley was slow to start and found it difficult to play in their opponents half during the opening ten minutes. However, the tempo of the game changed when Carly Chilton parried Eva Thomas’ goal bound shot for a corner after thirteen minutes.

This was followed by May Hamblin finding space on the left flank and being fouled by Barton’s Chloe Procter for a penalty that Rose Page-Smith converted on the quarter hour mark.

Despite the better possession Woodley were unable to extend their lead with the best chance before the break falling to Page-Smith who with her back to goal turned and had her shot blocked.

Twelve minutes into the second half Amie Benton’s lob from distance narrowly went over Chilton’s cross bar as United sought to extend the lead.

A change in the visitors formation saw them push the hosts back and have goal disallowed on sixty three minutes for offside as the home side pushed out quickly after a corner and three minutes later Woodley’s keeper Nicole Haines parried Ellise Lowe’s shot over the cross bar.

United responded by moving Sarah Thompson into midfield and Benton to the right wing and regained the initiative which was rewarded on eighty three minutes when Benton’s cross beyond the far post was controlled and played into the six yard box by May Hamblin for substitute Faye Ward to score her first goal for the club.

Ward and Benton were instrumental in creating a chance for Page-Smith with three minutes of normal time remaining while Thomas also narrowly missed before Rachel Allwright scored Barton’s consolation goal four minutes into stoppage time when a long clearance caught the home defence flat footed allowing the striker to drive her shot pass Haines.

This Sunday the team welcome second placed Winchester City Flyers to Bulmershe Pavilion.

Haines, Evans, Wilkins, Sawyer, Surtees, Thompson, Penny, Pearson, Page-Smith, Thomas, Hamblin. Subs used: Benton, Cooke and Ward
