Victory against Colliers Wood United on Wednesday 15th April 2026 ensures the 1st team a play-off postion.
Woodley United 3 (3) v Colliers Wood United 0 (0)
A second successive home win in five days secured Woodley a place in the division’s promotion playoffs and left the team knowing that a point this coming Saturday 18th April 2026 will see the team finish in fourth place in the final league table. A remarkable achievement when compared to the win on the last day of last season that saw United move out of the relegation zone to finish fourth from bottom.
Woodley kicked off toward the River Thames end in their traditional positive manner taking the game to the visitors. Following a cross field pass by Nico Cammock from left wing to Dylan Clark on the right, Clark cut into the penalty area forcing Colliers’ goalkeeper Jack Powell to parry the shot into the path of Kaylum Barlow who put his follow up wide under pressure from the recovering Powell.
Powell was called upon to make a save a minute later to be followed by Dontae Hamblin shooting over the cross bar shortly afterwards. The home pressure was rewarded in the eleventh minute when Barlow won the ball from a Wood throw in to pass to Hamblin in the penalty area. The Woodley forward showed good skill to pull the ball back from the goal line to the edge of the penalty area where Tristan Campbell was unmarked and struck the ball to Powell’s right to open the scoring.
The visitors first chance of the game came five minutes later from a corner the ball was headed goalwards for Joe Hill to comfortably catch. This was to be the story of Colliers’ play where they relied on corner kicks to create goalscoring opportunities as opposed to open play which the home defence comfortably dealt the visitors’ attacks.
The lead was doubled in the twenty third minute when Campbell’s free kick inside his own half found Clark on the right wing, who ran into the penalty area beating a number of players before scoring inside Powell’s left hand upright.
In the twenty fifth minute, the goalscoring was completed. Following a short corner kick by Wood that saw Hill catch the ball, the Woodley keeper kicked the ball long down the pitch where Oliver Davis from the edge of his own penalty area headed the ball backward over the advancing Powell and into his own net.
The withdrawal of defender Kian Leahy due to injury in the thirty fourth minute did not impact Woodley who comfortably saw the game to half time.
Making full use of their substitutes during the early period of the second half, that included the return of George Day for his first appearance since mid-August 2025 due to injury, Woodley played good football but were unable to further score including a period when Colliers’ were reduced to ten men due to a sin bin offence.
Hill, Downes, Cammock (Oates), Simpson, Leahy (Suckling), Naicker (Day), Clark, Campbell, Hamblin (Taplin), Collins, Barlow (Simmo)
