Woodley progress in Chairman’s cup

Woodley United 6 (4) v Chesham United Development 3 (2)

United won it’s first game of the season and in doing so progressed to the second round of Southern Region Women’s Football League’s Chairman’s cup.

Twice the team came from behind to go into half time with a four-two lead.   Chesham opened the scoring in the third minute following from a corner kick that saw Jo Newak-Allum save well only for Oana Filip to score from close range.

Ellie Stalley levelled fourteen minutes later when she received a pass, rounded visiting keeper Lucy McNamee to score from a tight angle.

Nell Coster restored the visitors’ lead in the twenty third minute when she revieved a pass just in side the Woodley left hand side of their half, was allowed to run unchallenged before shooting from twenty five yards.

A Woodley corner kick in the thirty third minute saw United keep possession of the ball where it was played into the goal area and met by Amelie Mayani for the first goal for the club.  When Chesham attempted to pass the ball out defence, Lucy Giles made an interception and passed to Stalley who scored pass McNamee one on one in the fortieth minute.  Giles complete the first half score three minutes into stoppage time when she shot over McNamee from a tight angle after receiving a cross field pass from Stalley.

Against the run of play Chesham reduced the deficit fourteen minutes into the second half when Riby Slade beat Nowak-Allum to the ball but the visitors were unable to build upon this goal.  Stalley completed her hat trick from the penalty spot on the hour mark after she had been fouled.  Ten minutes later the scoring was completed when Zara Nurcellari also scored her first goal for the team when she shot into an empty net after McNamee had blocked Nurcellari’s initial shot.
