The annual Woodley Carnival is always a highlight for all involved; from organizers to those enjoying the fair and everyone in between, it is perhaps the only event that literally makes the town stop. And on June 8th, 2019, the 59th edition once again took place, with the funfair at Woodford Park, and the procession starting at Comet Way on the Woodley Airfield. Being such a classic event, there are several floats and parades from all different clubs, schools, and all sorts of different organisations. However, this year, there was a special group at the very front of the procession.

Leading the way through town were the U9 and U10 teams of Woodley United, with over 20 players singing and cheering on the top floor of an open top bus. Joined by all their managers, other Woodley managers, volunteers (and myself), everyone engaged with the crowds throughout and we hope to see some new faces at all different age groups next season as a result. Every road the parade went down, the boys were at the front, always in full voice celebrating their cup wins from the recent tournament the week before.

You can find pictures of all the boys on the bus on https://www.readingchronicle.co.uk/news/17700446.thousands-enjoy-woodley-carnival/, https://www.getreading.co.uk/whats-on/whats-on-news/best-pictures-woodley-carnival-16407815 https://www.wokinghampaper.co.uk/mover-over-hollywood-heres-woodley-carnival-fun-despite-heavy-winds/

Fiinally, a big thank-you to all those involved in either organising our float, those volunteering handing out flyers, or anyone who did anything to make sure that things on our side were a success! Another big thank-you to all those involved with the Carnival, this year’s was one of the biggest ever and we’re sure that we’ll be involved in the bigger ones to come.
