Max Fanstone’s first goal for the club maintains unbeaten start to the season.
Notwithstanding the first wet windy afternoon of the season on a firm pitch United showed good maturity in taking the win that moved them up to second place in the league table and one of only two teams that remain unbeaten at the end of August.
Kasper Hok made a welcome return to the team following his recent transfer from Windsor & Eton and together with fellow defenders Kieran Maylen and Nico Cammock restricted the visitors to very few chances throughout the match.
However, it was midfielder Max Fanstone who took the man of the match award with his all-round performance that saw him cover nearly every blade of grass and scoring the only goal of the game that coincided with his first for the club.
United forced two corners in quick succession in the third minute followed by Cammock shooting over the bar following a pass form Harvey Collins that involved Troy Williams and Sam Garafalo in the build-up play.
Staines sole chance in open play fell to Faud Banire who shot wide of Joe Hill’s goal midway through the half.
The game’s only goal came in the twenty eighth minute when Collins passed to Garafalo on the right who ran towards the goal line before playing the ball across the goal area where Fanstone poked it pass the visiting goalkeeper Bob Honey.
United remained in control for the remainder of the half with the visitors one opportunity being in stoppage time when Richard Bond put a free kick over the home goal.
The opening fifteen minutes of the second half saw United create chances but fail to convert them. Troy Williams rounded the advancing Honey only to shoot wide and also saw a shot cleared of the goal line back to him only to again hit the side netting from a tight angle. Garofalo also found himself one on one with Honey only to be flagged offside.
The visitors had their first second half attempt at goal in the sixty-sixth minute from a free kick that was cleared for a corner and this was followed five minutes later when a United defensive clearance fell to a Lammas player to shoot wide.
Williams again hit the side netting having rounded Bond while Cammock’s cross was cleared for a corner as the hosts looked for a second goal. The closing minutes of the game saw new signing Sanchez Parkes have a cross cleared to safety and the game ended with Bond saving and parring away from goal Cammock’s shot.
