Ten man United win again

Woodley United 2 (0) v Brook House 0 (0)

United made it three wins in eight days to cement their second position in the division and in doing so game Brook House only their second league defeat of the season.  As with the previous match at Moseley, Woodley won the hard way playing a little under a hour with ten men following Troy Williams’ dismissal.

Boasting the division’s leading scorer, Trey Pender-Brown in their ranks, Woodley’s defenders rose to the challenge in keeping him goalless especially post the sending off that saw Bedfont have only four shots on target, two of which came in second half stoppage time.

Pender-Brown had the first goalscoring attempt of the match in the seventh minute, shooting over the home crossbar which was followed three minutes later when man of the match Nico Cammock ran and passed to Sanchez Parkes only to see a visiting defender block his shot.

The opening goal of the game came in the seventeenth minute.  Harvey Collins’ corner was cleared back to him, where he played the ball back into the Brook House penalty area, Kian Leahy played the ball towards the penalty spot for defender Eden Downes to shoot low into the net.

United sought to press home their advantage with Troy Williams twice being flagged off-side and the forward seeing a header tipped over the crossbar by Adam Childs in the twenty five minute.

A minute later United thought a Brook House defender had handled the ball in his own penalty area, but play continue and on the counterattack Joe Hill saved for a visitors’ corner kick.

A coming together between Williams and Brook House defender Carter McLaughlin saw the former dismissed and the latter cautioned.

The first minute of first half stoppage time saw Leahy pass to Cammock for the latter to shot wide of the goal.

Seven minutes into the second half Leahy’s pass from his own half over the visitors’ defence allowed Parkes to run with the ball into the penalty area where he was fouled by Ano Mano.  The resulting penalty kick saw Collins despatch the ball to Child’s left hand post while the keeper dived to his right.

For much of the half United defended resolutely.  Joe Hill blocked a shot with three minutes of normal time remaining and deny Pender-Brown with a save three minutes into stoppage time to be followed two minutes later with a parried save that saw captain Kieran Maylen cleared the ball of the goal line to maintain a clean sheet for the home side which resulted in Brook House failing to score for the first time this season in a league match
