Ten man United secure away win

Molesey 1 v Woodley United 2

7th October 2025

United overcame a tricky midweek trip to Molesey, to record a third successive two-one victory that lifted the team to second place in the league table.

Notwithstanding a few moments delay to the kick off due to a floodlight pylon not working and a small break in play due to an absent corner flag, United again started strongly from their kick off with the first chance coming in the fifth minute when Troy Williams downward header, from Nico Cammock’s cross, bounced up and over the cross bar.  Williams was to go on an be a constant threat to the home defence with his movement, desire to win the ball and attempts at goal.

Molesey responded immediately through their best player Max Kuruc whose pace in the first half caused the visitors defence problems without troubling Joe Hill in the Woodley goal.  Three times in the opening eleven minutes the Moles were flagged for offside.

Woodley took the lead in the sixteenth minute when Kieran Maylen’s downward header from Dylan Clark’s corner saw Kasper Hok find the goal net from twelve yards.

Four minutes later the visitors survived a scare when Rob Brown short wide from Phelan Matheson’s cross.  Brown was to be flagged offside before he found the net on the half hour mark which was followed by a good run from Williams who pass found substitute Ornildo Shehu, on for the injured Jude Van Spall, only for the ball to be bundled clear.

The first half ended with Brown again shooting wide, this time from Kuruc’s cross and then a Woodley header cleared of the goal line, from another Clark corner, and the resulting attempt gathered by ex- Woodley goalkeeper Alex Londors.

The visitors extended their lead four minutes into the second half with a candidate for goal of the season.  Jame East played the ball forward to Williams, who fell under pressure from a defender while passing the ball to Woodley’ right and Clark.  With Clark running down the wing, Williams picked himself up and ran towards the penalty area where he met Clark’s cross to head pass Londors and inside his left hand post.

Shehu had an opportunity to further extend the lead when following a long throw from Noah Chengun, Shehu turned and shot wide.

The nature of the game changed in the fifty eighth minute with the dismissal of Kian Leahy for an off the ball incident.  However, United defended resolutely for forty minutes, including stoppage to restrict the hosts to a single goal that came in the sixth minute of added time.

Hill made two outstanding saves while Max Fanstone was denied by Londors in a one on one a minute before Molesey scored their consolation which came as a result of Hill being penalised for releasing the ball for a fly kick outside his penalty area. The resultant free kick deflected of Dariush Heravi into the goal net.
