2-0 Victory sees United Ladies go 1 point behind leaders, with a game in hand. May gave her thoughts on a game with tough conditions

Second time these teams have met this season, with Woodley racking up the 3 points this time, in comparison to the draw first time around. We had an opportunity to catch up with May Hamblin, United's winger post the game to get her thoughts.

2-0 Victory over a very combative opposition, Oxford City Nomands, what's your views on the game?

We knew before kick off that it wouldn’t be an easy game and the opposition made it very difficult for us. I think at times during the first half we made it hard for ourselves but the second half was a much more disciplined performance and everyone put the work in. 2-0 can be a dangerous score but everyone worked hard for each other to ensure we got the result.

Oxford came close to narrowing the margin, but defensively as a team, you seemed to be controlling the situation. What does it come down to?

Players put the work in at training and I think this shows on the pitch. There is a lot of encouragement within the team so everyone is continuing to put in hard work for 90 minutes. We didn’t let our heads drop when it looked like Oxford may score but instead continued to motivate and support one another.

3 wins out of 3 in 2018, good start to second half of the season. How are you managing this form?

We are taking each game as it comes and I think this helps with the focus in the team. There’s a good turn out at training which shows everyone is committed and there’s a huge sense of togetherness within the team as well. We encourage each other both on and off the pitch so we are always working hard for one another during the match.

Good run in the league, 1 point behind leaders, 1 game in hand, 3 games to play. How close is it going to be?

It will go down until the last game of the season but at this stage we just need to take each game as it comes to make sure we remain focused and get the results we know we’re capable of. I have every confidence in the team and believe we can go on to win it but we need to ensure we continue to put in the hard work.

Now a number of cup games, 6 games,2 of them being semi-finals. What the aim for the next cup, Jubilee Cup?

We obviously want to get as far as we can in this Cup and there is no reason why we can’t go on to get some silverware if we continue with the belief and dedication that we currently have. There are a lot of strong teams in it but we will do our best to go all the way.

We ask this to everyone, and certainly our favourite - what’s your individual expectations and team expectations for the rest of the year?

As with everyone else in the team - it would be great to get some silverware in one of the cups and hopefully go on to win the league as well. It’s important we remain focused. On a personal level, I’d like to get some more assists and hopefully continue with my scoring form. But, more importantly for me I’d like ensure I am performing well in each game for the team so we can reach our goals.

Woodley United take a break from the league, and will start their run of 6 Cup Games away to Alton Ladies. Come and Support the Ladies in what promises to be an exciting game and a long road to end of the season.
