Victory for the Sky Blue Ladies sees them go top of the Group B in the Jubilee Cup.

The ladies start their cup runs with a victory away from home in the Jubilee Cup, which takes them to the top of Group B, and leaves them in a good position to qualify.

The 2-1 victory against a tough opposition, Alton, led to Woodley take the top spot with 2 wins in 2 games.

We caught up with Charley Evans, who joined the Sky Blue Ladies earlier this season, to get her thoughts on the game.

2-1 victory today away from home against Alton. What’s your views on the game?

It was always going to be a tough game with Alton being top of the group and us being in second, so it was vital that we needed to get the first goal to settle into the game. In the first half we started really well not only scoring but keeping their chances to a minimum. When the score went to 2-0, we felt more relaxed and played some good football. Even though we then conceded we didn’t feel we would let the game slip.

Close game, especially in the last 5 mins of the game, after the lead being narrowed. How did you manage to overcome the pressure?

As a team we held our positions well meaning they couldn’t find another way through, everyone played their part. Towards the end of the game, I believe our fitness as a team also prevented them from scoring again.

Unbeaten in 8 games, what do you think it comes down to at this stage of the season?

At this stage in the season, we all have got to know each other and how everyone plays, even knowing how to fill in others positions when needed. This showed at the weekend when we were missing some key players and we still managed to get a result.

You joined us in the first half of the season, how have you found coming into a new team?

It’s always difficult coming into a new group of players, but I have settled into the team very well and everyone has made me feel welcomed.

Another Cup game in the Jubilee Cup, against Oxford, an opposition the team recently beat in the league. What do you expect from the game?

Having recently beating the in the previous week, I am expecting them to come looking to revenge a win. The previous game was tough against Oxford and they can be a strong team, so I also expect it to be a fast paced game.

Our favourite question. What’s your individual and team expectations for the year?

My team expectations for the season is to hopefully continue our good run in all cup competitions, and to challenge for the league title.

Woodley United Ladies face Oxford City Nomands this weekend at the Bulmershe Pavillion in the 3rd game of the Jubilee Cup Group Stages. Please come and show your support to the team.
