Plenty of effort but no points

Two early Borough goals prove too much for United in the first of two meetings in five days between the two teams.

Against promotion play-off chasing Hillingdon Borough, United found themselves two goals behind after the visitors scored twice in a six minute spell early in the match. Despite United’s best endeavours which saw them more than a match for Hillingdon, they only had a sole second half goal from Ty Moorcroft for their efforts.

The second minute saw Moorcroft receive a Goerge Day pass, out run the defence only to shoot wide. The same player also saw an effort go wide late in the half having gone round Borough’s goalkeeper Gustavo Nunes, who had advanced to the edge of his penalty area.

Nicollas Freitas opened the scoring in the twelfth minute which was followed by Jake Pickett’s strike from the edge of the home penalty area five minutes later that hit the underside of the cross bar and going into Joe Hill’s top right hand corner.

Moorcroft reduced the deficit on the hour when he ran onto Dylan Clark’s pass to shoot low across Nunes into the far left hand corner.

Hillingdon was reduced to ten players when substitute Guilherme Silva was dismissed for a challenge on Moorcroft in the eight second minute. However, United was unable to capitalise on the player advantage with Borough seeing out six minutes of stoppage time.
