Woodley United U8 Hurricanes v Barton Rovers U8 Rebels

This weeks it was explained to the Hurricanes that each of them were a big part of the team and we should respect each other. They were asked to concentrate on showing Ryan what a strong side they are. They were asked if they could apply the defending training we had practiced in training and also support the goal keeper positively. But most of all to play and have fun.

In the first half the team worked well against a strong opposition, Jack was quickly rewarded. The team remembered the formation well which made it easy for the coaches to substitute frequently and rotate the positions.

At half time each of the team identified that they needed to pass more and how they were going to do that. Each player worked hard and never gave up concentrating on trying to score against a well defending and attacking side. The boys were reluctant to be subs showing their passion for the game.

At the end of the match the boys showed a real positive team spirit. We sat down and all talked in turn about what we could improve on in training and stayed behind for a kick about to end on a high.

Player of the match goes to Ed for his consistent attitude and approach to working for the team. He dropped back when necessary to cover the defensive role, just as we had asked them to do.

Effort award goes to Ryan for his first appearance with Hurricanes. He proved to himself he can perform at a level where he will be tested. The score line could have been dramatically different if it wasn't for his skills in goal.
