Match Reports 11th February 2017
Berkshire Youth Development League

Woodley United U8 Hurricanes v Twyford Comets U8 Black

The team brief today was that individually each player was brilliant with loads to learn. They understood that they could turn that brilliance into teamwork by supporting each other. The emphasis was placed on supporting Ryan by defending as they had practiced in training.

Ryan played an excellent game. He was commanding in goal, directing the team what to do if they entered his territory. It was obvious from the start that the boys were going up against tough opposition. The boys put pressure on the ball and when under pressure themselves they defended well.

Ed read the game cleverly falling back to defend before the opposition could make any use of ball. Prince found space and made darting runs across the pitch, growing in confidence with each shot he took. Jack and Tyler had come to the game with a plan on passing and shooting. The whole team seemed in on this plan and tirelessly worked at it. Success was always going to prevail. Ben and Jonty worked from end to end. Supporting the attacking play or defensively supporting Ryan.

During the halftime huddle the boys were full of smiles and laughs. They set their own goal of passing and shooting more as it had worked in the first half. The concentration remained during a tense second half right to the final blow of the whistle.
Individually they were brilliant. Collectively they have started to work as a team.

Player of the match, Jack for his focus on today's game. He listened, concentrated and committed to playing the game.

Effort award goes to Prince. He took every chance he was presented with to make fast well controlled runs at the opposition no matter where he played on the pitch.
