Match Report 25th March 2017
Berkshire Youth Development League

Woodley United U8 Cyclones V Henley Lions U8 Black

Only five players this week so no substitutions and playing against a strong Henley Lions team, It was always going to be a challenging game.

As soon as the whistle was blown to start the match Henley were on the attack and caught Woodley off guard. It was at this point Anna and Myself thought it was going to be a very tough and disheartening game. Then out of nowhere the Woodley players played like they have never played before. They were playing with a sense of urgency and extremely positively. They were pushing forward and penetrating the defence by being where you would expect them to be for the positions they were playing. In both halves Woodley’s striker was being creative by staying up by Henley’s goal so that even when defending there was one less Henley player attacking our goal. Throw ins were being taken quickly and there were periods where Henley were overcome by the pressure being put on them by Woodley.

Throughout the game it was end to end and all the players from Woodley and Henley seemed to be enjoying themselves. I would also like to the Henley Lions were a smashing group who not only played very well but also showed great sportsmanship during and after the game and it was a real pleasure to have them as our opposition.

Man of the match went to Leo for keeping the game flowing fast when we were attacking by taking the throw ins in a timely manner and never giving up.

Effort Award as chosen by captain Lucas went to Kayden for making some fantastic runs up and down the pitch and always being involved in and out of possession.

A special mention to our captain of the day Lucas who showed real leadership before, during and after the match. Well done.
