Woodley move up to second in league table

Rising Baller Kensington 1 (0) v Woodley United 4 (1)

United won their first game in over a month and in doing so moved into second place in the division, one point behind leaders Brook House

Kicking off, Woodley were soon into their stride enjoying good possession in the host’s half of the pitch.  Connor Suckling shot over the bar from Dylan Clark’s sixth minute corner kick to be followed two minutes later by Donate Hamblin shooting wide after running onto a pass they split the Ballers’ defence.

United survived a scare in the eleventh minute when Joe Hill struggled to hold Casey Yusuff-Phillip’s low shot.

The opening goal came in the eighteenth minute when Hill threw the ball to Clark on Woodley left, Clark crossed the ball to the right hand side where Lucas Taplin ran onto it, following a defender’s deflection and score pass Oscar Walczak in the home goal.

Five minutes later Onajite Edumijeke headed wide of Hill’s goal from Seigio Carro’s free kick.  Kieran Maylen saw a shot cleared on the goal line from another Woodley corner, while Walczak blocked Suckling’s shoot from a one on one situation following a pass from Clark.

Two minutes into the second half, Clark extended United’s lead which set the scene for Woodley to be in the ascendancy with Clark, Sucking and Taplin causing the hosts’ defenders problems and it was Suckling who struck the third goal in the seventy sixth minute.

A lapse of concentration by Woodley saw them fail to cleanly clear the ball from a Ballers’ attack allowing Tobi Bolaji to score two minutes later.  However, the home team were unable to capitalise on this lifeline as Woodley regained their composure.

The final goal came with the last touch of the game when the ball entered the net from a deflection off Kaylum Barlow from another visitors’ corner kick.
