In front of a decent size crowd, considering England was playing a World Cup qualifying group tie, United went into this match selecting only four players who started in the previous match last Saturday at London Samurai Rovers.
Berks County kicked off and immediately had Woodley on the back foot with winger Shaquille Johnson causing the home defence problems on their right hand side and taking the lead as early as the seventh minute when George Gould scored with his head when beating home keeper Joe Hill to cross.
Gradually the United players began to find an understanding between themselves, weathered the Berks County pressure and started to put pressure on the visiting defence. However, the only chance came in the twenty fourth minute but Harvey Rackley-Hayes rushed out of his penalty area to clear the danger for a throw in.
Berks County doubled their lead a minute later when they broke down their right hand wing and played a low cross in the United penalty which was met by Gould for his second of the game.
Immediately after this Joe Hill was required to push Johnson’s shot onto his cross bar when the ball was cleared to safety. United responded immediately with Charlie Gmiterek shooting wide of Rackey-Hayes right hand post. The game then entered a period of uncertainty when the referee blew for halt time only to realise when players were walking to the changing rooms that there was still three minutes to play resulting in the players return and resume proceedings.
Three minutes into the second half Sanchez Parkes rounded Rackley-Hayes only to see his goal bound shot cleared by Louis Nvalart for a corner kick. Woodley’s positive second half start was rewarded six minutes later when Filip Podgorski found the roof of the net, via deflection, following a clearance from a United corner.
Johnson restored the visitors two goal advantage in the fifty sixth minute following a long throw in, which was immediately followed by Woodley introducing Ornildo Shehu, a recent returnee to the team, following a spell at Rising Ballers (Kensington). Shehu’s desire to run at opponents saw United raise the tempo with much of the play in the County half. Parkes shot at Rackey-Hayes after a good run, Shehu’s low cross was cleared from the penalty area while Max Fanstone’s cross into the penalty area evaded everyone before being cleared.
With three minutes remaining and United pushing forward, they were punished when Isaac Leader scored from distance having seen Hill of his goal line. Although Woodley continued to press forward the closest they came to scoring was when Kieran Maylen had shot blocked from a United corner.
Hill, Hok, Wilkinson (Cammock), Simpson, Maylen, Podgorski, Fanstone (Williams), Gmiterek (Shehu), Parkes, Debarros (Barlow), Tait-Toussaint (Collins)
