Three valuable points won against the Saints

United won a valuable three points in their fight against relegation to make it three wins and a draw from the last five league outings.

From the Saints’ kick off, United was positive in their play using both wings to good effect. George day saw a shot go wide of visiting goalkeeper Adam Hassane’s right hand post, Ty Moorcroft had a shot blocked by Hassane’s legs and Ousman Darboe saw an effort go over the crossbar.

The sixteenth minute required Woodley to scramble the ball away from its goal line following a Saints’ long throw that Joe Hill initially punched but needed George Day’s help to clear. Five minutes later man of the match Eden Downes made a timely challenge in his penalty area to prevent a Saints shot at the Woodley goal,

Kieran Maylen put a lob over the visitors’ crossbar from a Dylan Clark corner before Darboe opened the scoring in the thirty fifth minute for Woodley when Moorcroft’s low cross was only cleared to the United player to steer the ball into Hassane’s left side netting.

The important second goal came seven minutes into the second half as a result of Clark converting a penalty kick following Hassane being cautioned for a foul on Moorcroft. In the ascendancy United won a number of corners and it was from one in the sixty third minute that Day headed goalwards with the assistant referee adjudging the ball to have crossed the goal line before being cleared.

Manager, Jordan Blake maximised his substitutions ahead of a busy forthcoming week of fixtures before Saints scored their consolation in the fifth minute of stoppage time with Dan Wilson tapping home a loose ball following Hill blocking a shot on his goal line.
