Two wins in a row for 1st team

Town made it back to back wins and in doing so moved two places up the league table following this victory over neighbours and bottom placed side Finchampstead.

With nine of the same starting eleven from the previous week Town’s side had a more settled feel about it and were rewarded after nine minutes when captain Mike Alleyne’s pass found Lemar Maycock on Town’s right, who ran at the Finchampstead goal to shoot off the inside of the far post to open the scoring.

The visitors responded strongly with Ashley Smith making a point blank save three minutes later and KJ Smith Solicitors' man of the match Craig Blissett called upon to make some last ditch tackles before Jordan Goddard’s low pass into the Finchampstead goal area evaded the on running Maycock.

Freddie Barron forced Smith to tip over his cross bar at full length which was followed by Smith diving full length to push a shot away for a corner on thirty seven minutes. With two minutes to the break the visitors won a throw in and form the resulting long throw into Town’s penalty area which Steve Ryan ran onto and headed home the equaliser.

Town started the stronger second half and took the lead in similar fashion to Ryan’s goal when substitute Dan Watkiss’ long throw found Gareth Davies at the far post to hear home his first goal for the club on fifty minutes. The closest Finchampstead came to equalising was eleven minutes later when they had a disallowed for off side followed by Gavin Rolls shooting over on sixty eight minutes with only Smith to beat.

From then onwards Town were the more assured side and wrapped the points up four minutes into stoppage time when Alleyne converted a penalty following a foul on Goddard.

Town are at home once again this Saturday when leaders AFC Hinksey visit, who comprehensively defeated Town on the opening day of the season.
