Another triple figure crowd watch this local derby as the two teams met for the second successive Saturday where Wokingham & Embrook enjoyed the better of the opening twenty minutes.
As early as the second minute Town’s Ben Tanner saved well from Luke Scope after what appeared to be a push by the forward on James Pheby prior to the shot while Mark O’Connell fired a free kick over the visitors cross bar. In between these attempts Woodley’s debutant Seun Odusanya went down in Wokingham’s penalty area under a challenge but play continued.
Despite Woodley looking to play a passing game they struggled with Wokingham’s direct long ball style and were guilty of conceding a number of free kicks. It was from one such kick that Town failed to clear allowing the unmarked Elliott Rushworth to fire home from eighteen yards on nineteen minutes.
The lead was doubled four minutes later. Luke Titcombe made a last ditch tackle for a corner and from the kick Jake Butler headed home from close range.
Town responded well with Odusamya firing wide and Pheby having a long range lob comfortably saved by Sean Woodward. This period of play resulted in Woodward conceding a corner from a Jordan Goddard shot which saw Michael Alleyne’s kick powerfully headed into the host’s net by Oli Bridges for his first goal for the club five minutes before half time.
The second half was an even affair with Town continuing good possession without troubling Woodward and Wokingham relying on counter attacks and it was from one such break that Sam Bateman broke free and passed to Clifford Haylett to slot past the onrushing Tanner on seventy one minutes.
With eight minutes remaining Omar Cofie saw his header from Danny Isaiew’s cross rebound of the foot of the upright while Gareth Davies fired over in the final minute after good approach play by Goddard.
