Town’s fifteen game losing streak, dating back to mid September 2013, came to an end with this much deserved victory.
Despite an early save by Ben Tanner, Town enjoyed the better of the opening twenty minutes showing a greater sharpness, against a team who were playing their first competitive match since last December.
Woodley’s play brought its rewards on twenty minutes when Seun Odusanya opening the scoring with his first goal for the club when he received the ball with his back to goal in United’s penalty area and turned to fire into the far side netting past keeper Frankie Atwell.
However, the lead was nearly short lived when Tanner miscalculated the bounce of the ball five minutes later allowing Troy Timothy to head wide when faced with an open goal. Town recovered their composure with Oli Bridges and Luke Titcombe solid in defence and created the best chance of the remaining half when Jordan Goddard forced a fingertip save by Atwell to push the ball over his cross bar.
The visitors started the second half strongly and had a goal disallowed in the first minute for a foul on Tanner but it was the home side who extended their lead three minutes later when man of the match Lemar Maycock reacted quickest to hesitation between Atwell and a defender to poke the ball past Atwell.
United pulled once back on the hour when Brandon Baker – Timms out foxed Titcombe before beating Tanner when one on one. Town were determined to maintain their lead and collectively put in a tremenmdous team performance making it hard for Maidenhead to threaten the home goal with the exception of a free kick in the final minute that beat Tanner and rebounded back into play from the Town cross bar. Before this Maycock had seen Atwell parry his shot and Danny Isaiew fire the rebound wide.
Having got the win Town will be looking to build upon this when Chalfont Wasps visit East Park Farm on 23rd March 2014.
