After a run of bad luck and poor form, Woodley Town plummeted to new depths in a dreadful last quarter hour in this Division 1 Hellenic league match versus Penn & Tylers Green.
The game looked like it would be closely contested at the start, with debutant Jez West looking sharp on the right and Mikey Alleyne winning ball and creating in the centre of the park. Penn had an an early chance but Danny Jordan mishit a left foot shot. Shortly after, Alleyne was yellow carded for dissent after arguing about a free kick awarded to Penn on the edge of the box following an innocuous challenge. Chris Hurst stepped up to curl the free kick over the wall and into the net for a 15th minute lead.
Town's first real chance was created by James Pheby who set up Lemar Maycock for a shot which the keeper did well to parry. From the resulting corner, Gareth shot on goal but Matthew Cannings, the Penn keeper, was equal to it.
With the home side well in the game and three minutes of added first half time already played, Penn broke from their own half and exchanged passes neatly. Substitute, Anton Bradley, picked up the pass and ran through the heart of the defence, sliding the ball past Ash Smith to double the advantage.
Any hope of a second half comeback was scotched after three minutes when Gareth Davies was alleged to have brought down his marker. The penalty was despatched by Chris Hurst.
Woodley's recent vulnerability to corners was again demonstrated in the 65th minute as a back post cross was converted by the head of Dean Munday.
Louie used all his player options in the first 20 minutes of the second half, injured Chace Jewell, Jez West and Ish Thomas making way for Jordan Goddard, Adam King and Dan Watkiss.
It was Watkiss who conceded a second penalty as the floodgates opened in the last 15 minutes of the match. Hurst finished off his hat-trick with another excellent penalty.
The last four goals were all very well taken with Town giving an impression of a beaten side that had switched off. Taking advantage were Danny Jordan, Rino Sepede, Jordan Gumbs and, with the pick of the goals, left back, Josh Fox, who smashed in via the cross bar from 20 yards.
At 7-0 down, Town had their best chance, Lee Wheeler's corner landing perfectly on James Pheby's forehead but the header just missed the near post.
This was another mystifyingly bad performance from the first team, particularly in the last quarter, and there will be lots of work to do now before the vital home match v Henley Town on Saturday.
