As with last season the points and two goals are shared at Headington.

An equaliser three minutes from time denies Woodley a first league victory of the season

Woodley Manager, Louie Tallett, lost six of his Tuesday night squad for this tough match at last year's league runners up, Headington Amateurs. In came Luke Titcomb, Doug Groves, Matty Bennett, Iain Graham and Jordan Goddard showing the strength of the first team squad.

Playing with a strong wind against, Woodley were slow off the blocks and Ashley Smith had to be alert off his line to deny a chance. Dan Watkiss was shown a yellow card in the fourth minute for a reckless tackle and James Pheby did well to clear the ensuing free kick.

After ten minutes, Lemar Maycock started to work the defenders with his quick turns and pace, linking up well with Dan Watkiss on the right and Adam King on the left. On 13 minutes, Mike Alleyne set up Jordan Goddard for a strike which fizzed over the bar. Another good Woodley move saw Adam King set up Maycock and the defender did well to clear for a corner.

Using the wind advantage, the home side continued to look dangerous and played some nice football especially across the middle of the park - Iain Graham and Mike Alleyne had to work hard to close them down. Both sides had half chances to take the lead but the first half ended goalless.

Woodley started the second half the better side with Maycock heading wide followed by a left foot shot from Goddard drawing a good save from Harry Jenkins. On 53 minutes, Ashley Smith made the first of a number of excellent saves in the period. Shortly after, Adam King was replaced by Simon Griffiths.

As the play started to open up, Watkiss found some space on the right and his cross found Griffiths whose header was just too far in front of the onrushing Maycock. A minute later a long range shot from Alleyne tested Jenkins in goal.

The home side started to push hard for a winner, once again drawing a great save from Smith. This pressure resulted in holes opening up at the back and Maycock continued to cause panic with his runs. In the 70th minute, a long hopeful ball over the Headington back four was chased down by Maycock who robbed the defender and appeared to head the ball over Jenkins in goal. Knowing that Maycock only had to tap the ball in the net, Jenkins grappled him over giving the referee no option but to award a penalty and issue a red card. Alleyne stepped up to make it 1-0 to Woodley.

The final twenty minutes were played at a high tempo with Amateurs still pushing forward despite being outnumbered, leaving gaps that Woodley couldn't quite take advantage of. After a busy match Graham was replaced in midfield by Matt Bennett.

With time running out for Amateurs, their excellent right back, Yannick Nkwanyno strode forward, latched on to a through pass and smashed the ball home past Smith from twelve yards.

With Maycock now spent, Doug Groves was introduced into midfield to help see out the last few minutes. To their credit, Headington went forward looking for the win but the referee's whistle ended the match with the scores level.

Although disappointing to concede so close to gaining three points, Woodley Town players should be proud of their performance which could not be more different from one week earlier. Next Town take the long trip to West London to take on last year's Division 1 East champions, Rayners Lane.

Woodley line up: Smith, Thomas, Davies, Alleyne, Pheby (capt), Titcomb, Watkiss, Graham (Bennett), Maycock (Groves), Goddard, King (Griffiths). Sub not used: Blissett.
