Town restored their self pride with a much improved performance against a Burnham Reserve side giving a number of first team squad members a run out.

Early pressure on the Woodley goal nearly resulted in a goal for Lee Togwell but keeper Ashley Smith made a fine double save. Just as Woodley were settling into their rhythm, the home side stole the ball, Togwell delivered a great pass to Dan Tomlin on the right and his cross found Daniel Molloy for a straightforward tap in.

Both home wingers were working their defenders hard and a last gasp tackle from Gareth Davies saved another raid on goal. A lunge by Ishmael Thomas at left back earned the Woodley player a yellow card.

Another Burnham attack was foiled by Smith with Molloy one on one. Shortly after, and on the stroke of half time, Mikey Alleyne was shown a yellow card for persistent foul play and the free kick awarded resulted in a second Burnham goal. A well struck left foot free kick hit the keeper's left hand post and rebounded straight to the advancing Molloy to tap home.

The second half saw a much improved Woodley display with skipper Danny Isaiew looking impressive and working hard. On fifty eight minutes a well taken Dan Watkiss free kick was turned in by an unlucky defender under pressure from Isiaew, making it 2-1. Unfortunately, Burnham responded in similar fashion just three minutes later with Richard Jeffrey heading in from a free kick.

Fresh legs were brought on with Nikos Chrysikopoulos, Lee Wheeler and Craig Blissett coming on for Woodley. With a much better share of possession, the away team gained confidence and started to look dangerous. A free kick on the right was swung in by Watkiss and a great header from Lemar Maycock brought the score back to 3-2 with still 14 minutes to play.

In the dying minutes, a run and cross from James Pheby almost found Danny Isiaew just ten yards out but the defender's slight deflection put paid to the chance.

Despite the loss, Woodley can take great heart from the match, especially playing against a well drilled and talented side including several Burnham first team squad members. Next up will be Headington Amateurs on Saturday.

Smith, Davies, Thomas, Alleyne (Wheeler), Hylton, May (Blissett), Watkiss, Pheby, Cofie (Chrysikopolouis), Isiaew, Maycock. Subs not used: Griffiths, King
