First team remain unbeaten in 2018

United made two changes from Saturday's game. Jake Nicholls and Carl Prestidge came into the side in place of Ashley Ledger and Jordan Goddard.

The first ten minutes were all Abingdon, with three good chances to go ahead. The remainder of the match saw Woodley play some great stuff, crucially creating plenty of scoring opportunities.

Thirty seconds in, Conor Ingram headed over a right wing cross before Alex Reed in the home goal kept out shots from Callum Harvey and John Dennis.

Like the Highmoor game at the weekend, United went ahead with their first shot of the match. Haydon Richardson fired a penalty into the roof of the net after Abingdon keeper Edward Cavanagh bought down Danny Horscroft.

Thirty minutes in, Reed denied Harvey from the right side of the box whilst the hosts had a shot blocked.

The half ended with Richardson shooting tamely at Cavanagh before the Abingdon keeper was caught out of position trying to clear down the line. Woodley wingback Luke Turner shot goalwards only to see the chance headed clear six yards out.

United started the second half well. Good link up play between strikers Richardson and Toby Briggs saw the former's cross cut out by a yellow shirt who got in front of Horscroft.

Most of the play was down Woodley's right; a fine ball down the line by Turner to Richardson came to nothing with the cross being slightly overhit.

More pressure from United; a quickly taken free kick saw Abingdon caught with men forward. Horscoft's cross was nearly put into his own net by Harry Firkin. The resultant corner was cleared off the line as Woodley came closer and closer to a deserved second.

United made a change on fifty seven minutes when Liam Wilson replaced Prestidge at left wing back.

The scores were level on the hour when a cut back by Thomas Butler picked out Dennis who finished well with a placed shot into the left corner.
Before kicking off Woodley made a second change when Turner made way for Jaydyn Englefield.

The equaliser could have seen United's heads drop but if anything it raised the team. Richardson had a shot blocked, the follow up fell to Briggs who was denied by a fantastic block by Firkin.

Richardson was involved in the next attack; showing brilliant work rate to chase back and regain possession, he put Englefield in down the right who was crudely fouled. Nicholls took the free kick finding Horscroft who had his header blocked.

With fifteen minutes left, the home side made a final change when Teddy Thomas came on for the hard-working Briggs. This saw Wilson join Richardson up front and Thomas play on the left.

Horscroft was then denied twice by Cavanagh in the space of three minutes. The first chance came courtesy of a nice run and pass from Wilson whilst the second saw the Woodley midfielder thwarted after finding space on the left side of the box.

Two minutes from time Abingdon came very close to nicking all three points when a low shot from the right was cleared off the line by United captain Idris Kamara.

Deep into injury time United were denied a deserved winner when Wilson prodded agonisingly wide of the right post.

A morale boosting performance that merited the win. Next up is a trip to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
