A goal in each half sees Burnham run out deserved winners

Despite dominating possession for large parts of the first half Woodley struggled to create many goal scoring opportunities. Arguably their best chance of the match came in the opening two minutes when Michael Porter's header from Jake Nicholls corner was cleared off the line.

A cross from the left was punched clear by Burnham keeper Mo Sampat on the ten minute mark as United couldn't get things to click in the final third.

Mid way through the half and with the visitors starting to have more of the ball they were able to create several good chances. A well worked move saw Kordian Morawski tee up Conrad Joseph who tested Alex Reed in the Woodley goal from twenty two yards.

Burnham opened the scoring on thirty four minutes and really should have gone into half time with more than a one goal lead. A through ball found Jordan Dowdican who showed good strength before beating Reed with a shot off the right post.

Moments later Dowdican had a great chance to get his second when he latched onto a lofted through ball; with just Reed to beat he chipped wide.

The final opportunities of a frustrating half from a United point of view fell to Burnham. Reed was off his line quickly to deny Calvin Morgan whilst Joseph missed to the left from distance.

HT Woodley United 0-1 Burnham

Woodley made a positive start to the the second half; a nice cross from right back Michael Porter was headed clear before a flowing move, involving half the team, working the ball from right to left ended with Sampat claiming the cross that came in.

United had the ball in the net on fifty five minutes when Toby Briggs headed home a left wing cross only to be denied by the linesman's flag.

Two minutes after the disallowed goal Burnham got their second. A long ball over the top found Dowdican who was bought down by Reed in the box. Dowdican took the resultant penalty and found the top left corner.

Just past the hour saw a Woodley double change. Sam Guze and Callum Samuel-Harmen replaced Owen Davies and Ashley Ledger.

The hosts continued to look for a way back into the game. A nice touch by Briggs, controlling a left wing cross on his knee, was nicked off him by a defender before he could pull the trigger.

United made their final change with sixteen minutes left. Greg Beckett came on for Jordan Goddard. This saw the hosts go to three at the back with Beckett joining Briggs up top.

Despite the change it was Burnham who had the better of the play in the final fifteen minutes. Showing pace and power a great run by full back Charlie Fox down the left ended with him picking out Morgan who blazed over.

It was Morgan involved again minutes later; picking up a pass from substitute Walter Rizo he forced a brilliant save from Reed diving to his left.

Woodley ended match with a couple of half chances. Samuel-Harmen had a shot blocked whilst Danny Horscroft shot over from a free kick.
