Scoreline flatters hosts as United dominate possession

After Saturday's fantastic result, James Anderson named an unchanged line-up for Tuesday's trip to a Wantage side who had won eight out of their last ten.

The opening seven minutes were played entirely in the Town half with Woodley bossing possession but unable to test Curtis Meare in the home goal.

Despite having little of the ball in the early stages, it was the hosts who got the game's first goal when a ball over the top found Jack Dunmall; shooting from the edge of the box he beat Alex Reed with a low shot into the left corner.

The early setback didn't deter United who carried on playing some nice football. Danny Horscroft slightly over-hit a cross from the right with Nathanael Robinson free at the back post.

Wantage got a second on twenty minutes but there was some controversy in the build-up. Woodley centre back Idris Kamara's clearance appeared to hit a Wantage player on the arm, falling invitingly to a green shirt Kamara recovered to block the shot that immediately followed. The resultant corner was cleared off the line; reacting quickest, Brad Cox bundled home from close range.

Sixty seconds after the goal, Reed pulled off a good stop to deny a Steve Robertson effort that was heading for the top left corner.

The half wound down with Robinson firing over from a free kick. A Horscroft pull back then found Owen Davies who couldn't get his shot off whilst Jaydyn Englefield had a low cross cleared by a defender as United looked to get one back before the break.

The second period began with Meare back peddling to palm away a Horscroft cross before Robertson tested Reed with a powerful drive.

Fifty one minutes gone saw the home side increase their lead when Robertson beat Reed with a half volley from fifteen yards. The goal was harsh on United who had enjoyed more of the ball.

Looking for a response, Mitch Cooper forced Meare into a point blank save after the ball found the Woodley centre back following a Robinson set piece.

United made a double change on fifty seven minutes when Greg Beckett and Michael Porter replaced Davies and Englefield.

On the hour Reed pulled off a tremendous stop to deny Robertson after good play on the left wing by Mark Flanagan.

Woodley made their final change with twenty five minutes left. Luke Turner made way for Teddy Thomas.

United had a big penalty shout moments after the change when a Horscroft cross to Porter ended with the Woodley man being clattered by Meare; playing on, the ball fell to Robinson who saw his shot blocked on practically the goal line. United couldn't catch a break!

More Woodley half chances followed; a floated Robinson corner saw a looping Cooper header swatted away by Meare.

With nine minutes left, Robertson got a second when a heavy touch by Reed allowed the forward to steal possession, round the United keeper and roll into an empty net.

Greg Beckett had the game's final chance; his shot from twenty five yards was blocked by Chris Jackson.

Up next for Woodley is a trip to Binfield on Friday evening.
