United lose out in seven goal thriller

Played in front of a crowd well in excess of a hundred, Woodley tasted defeat in the league for the first time this season.

United started well, creating a very good chance inside the opening minute when Greg Beckett picked out Danny Horscroft who missed to the left. Moments later Woodley's Charlie Oakley broke through the home defence to get on the end of a superb Joe Barley pass only to be thwarted by a good tackle by Dan Carter.

Six minutes in, the hosts went ahead when Ben Broardhurst headed in a Jack Gibbs corner at the near post. Five minutes later Wokingham doubled their lead when Gibbs headed in a free kick.

This was a real blow to United who had only conceded twice in the previous seven league matches. Looking for an immediate response, captain Jake Nicholls had a shot blocked.

Mixing things up, Woodley wingers Greg Beckett and Adam Nditi swapped flanks. The change nearly yielded immediate results when the latter crossed to Oakley who could only make minimal contact on a difficult chance.

United halved the deficit on twenty one minutes when Oakley turned home a Nditi cross. The goal seemed to settle Woodley who bossed possession the for the reminder of the half. Nicholls shot wide, then had an effort blocked whilst Wokingham's Tom Williams missed to the right after a corner was only half cleared.

Despite having little of the ball, the home side restored their two goal advantage seven minutes before the break when Dave Morgan headed into his own net following a free kick on the right.

In a half dominated by set piece goals, United got their second when Beckett converted from the spot after a push on Oakley.

Six minutes after the restart and it was all square; picking up the ball ten yards inside the Wokingham half, Beckett drove at the home defence at speed before a perfectly weighted pass found Oakley who rounded Sean Woodward in the Wokingham goal before coolly slotting home.

The hosts first chance of the half fell to Tom Skidmore who forced Woodley keeper Alex Reed into a near post save.

United made their first change on fifty nine minutes when left back Sukhi Kang made way for Danny Greenwood.

The home side came within inches of going back ahead just after the hour when a dangerous cross by Skidmore flashed across the six yard box. Minutes later Morgan pulled down Sam Lawrence in the area allowing the impressive Gibbs to put Wokingham back in front from the spot. Despite Reed getting a hand to the penalty the ball found the right corner.

Before kicking off, Morgan made way for Josh Drew.

The game ended with Woodley desperately trying to keep their unbeaten start intact. Idris Kamara headed over a Horscroft corner, whilst a Nditi cross just evaded Oakley.

With the game in added time, United made their final change. Abdul Kamara replaced Horscroft.

More pressure from the visitors followed. Oakley headed over a corner before picking out Abdul Kamara who missed his kick in the eighth minute of stoppage time.
