Two second half goals see United up to third

United extended their winning start to their league campaign to four games with a superb performance against a Bicester side who had won four out of five.

Woodley forward Charlie Oakley had the game's first chance; shooting from the right side of the box his low shot was saved in the left corner by Ryan Watt. The Bicester keeper then kept out a Danny Horscroft free kick, diving to his right.

The visitors first real effort came courtesy of a right wing cross that picked out Harry Brock at the back post; taking a touch the Bicester player saw his shot blocked by a sea of blue shirts. United man of the match Dave Morgan then showed bravery to head clear a dangerous corner before his shot from twenty two yards was beaten out by Watt.

Thirty five minutes in, Oakley had a shot from the left deflect wide after getting on the end of a Morgan through ball, whilst a hooked Bicester shot from twelve yard just missed to the left.

Woodley went ahead on fifty minutes when Josh Drew fired a low shot into the left corner from an Oakley assist. Moments later Horscroft sliced wide from outside the box.

United made a double change on fifty eight minutes; Abdul Kamara and Teddy Thomas made way for Adam Nditi and debutant Sam Guze.
The change nearly paid off immediately when Watt completely missed his kick allowing Nditi to race clear down the left; with the goal open and two Woodley players in space Nditi's cross was cut out by the only Bicester defender in position.

A good spell by Town followed. However they were not able to test United goalie Alex Reed and the closest they came to an equaliser was when a left wing cross was headed clear by Woodley centre back Joe Barley who prevented a certain goal by taking it off the head of a Bicester player who could not have missed.

At the other end the two United substitutes combined when Nditi set up Guze who saw his shot saved in the left corner. Mid way through the half Woodley doubled their lead with a lovely goal spearheaded by the lively Nditi. Picking up the ball just in the Bicester half the United winger threaded a ball to Horscroft who crossed back to Nditi who fired a low shot into the right corner.

With ten minutes to go United made their final change; Charlie Baines came on for Oakley.

The game ended with Gavin Kidd, Adam Gardner and Jason Prpa having shots blocked as Woodley held on for their third clean sheet of the season.

FT Woodley United 2-0 Bicester Town

After the game I spoke to forward Charlie Oakley and assistant manager James Anderson.

Charlie on today's game:
'Great win against challenging opposition. We showed we can mix it up and play against different styles. Today we showed good patience and took our chances when they came.'

On the dressing room:
'I am loving it at Woodley; the atmosphere here is fantastic with everyone feeling welcome. Definitely the best team spirit I have been a part of.'

On personal goals for the season:
'I am aiming for a minimum of 20 goals. I also want to improve my overall game which I think I can do playing in this side.'

On team goals:
'I think promotion is definitely possible. We can't get complacent and if we stay clear of injuries I think we will be in the mix at the end of the season.'

James on previous coaching:
'I managed Tilehurst Albion for a number of years working with Michael Herbert as my assistant. We both took a few years out and have now teamed up again here at Woodley.'

Had you worked with any of the current squad before arriving here?
'Yes. I knew Teddy Thomas, Joe Barley, Toby Briggs, Charlie Baines, Jake Nicholls and Josh Drew.'

On this season:
'We need to take each game as it comes. In this league you are only as good as your last game. We have a great set up and if we keep playing like we have been we should be there or thereabouts.'

On the atmosphere at the club:
'Fantastic team spirit. No egos with everyone working together.'

On today's game:
'Really good performance. We played really well in the first half; whilst after the break we showed great discipline. There is arguably better opposition in this league but you can only beat what's in front of you and I thought we were deserved winners.'
