Fine win for 10 man Town

Town over came the handicap of being reduced to ten men on forty minutes, following Jamie Connor striking an opponent, to give one of their best performances of the season with no better example being man of the match goalkeeper Impy Cooke – Chowdhary.

The opening twenty five minutes saw the home side in the ascendancy with Sam Cripps lively up front and narrowly failing to make contact with Luke Williams’ cross on four minutes and seeing his header from Connor’s cross rebound of the cross bar. Nick Edwards also had a goal bound shot cleared of the line.

The match then became stifled in midfield with both teams conceding numerous free kicks without testing their opponent’s defence and cautions being given by referee Maynard.

In a strange way, Connor’s dismissal enabled Town to open the game up as they changed player position. These changes immediately paid dividends with Jamie Fairchild opening the scoring from close range a minute before the half time break.

Town continued to pressure in the second half with Cripps and Paul Holloway both spurning chances in the opening five minutes before Cooke – Chowdhary was called upon with a series of saves and blocks to deny the opposition.

Cripps extended the lead in the sixty third minute when he received a pass from Williams, who was beginning to tournament his marker, to slot pass Billy Leader in a one on one with the keeper.

Five minutes later Cooke – Chowdhary pushed a shot onto the underside of the cross bar and was first to react and smoother the rebound.

Williams’ pace saw him fouled twice in quick succession by Jordan Pearce, the second seeing him receive a second yellow card fifteen minutes from full time.

With even numbers Town remained firm finishing the match the stronger with Cripps and Adam Jeffrey both seeing shots go wide from good positions.
