Jamie Fairchild, Luke Williams

A second successive away trip saw Town secure maximum points the hard way to sit proudly at top of the table, the highest ever position the club has achieved.

In a match that had seen three dismissals and with the score level, nine man Town, who had defended resolutely, won a free kick following a foul on the tireless working Danny Isaiew five minutes from time to allow Luke Williams to drive the free kick past Chalfont’s Chris Tullett.

Town welcomed Rob Morley back who was making his first appearance for the team since limping off injured last October and enjoyed the best of the opening fifteen minutes. Luke Williams was instrumental in putting a number of crosses into the Chalfont penalty area what either flashed across the goal or were cleared, the most dangerous of which saw a defender head over his own cross bar.

Wasps responded by winning a couple of corners in quick succession and thought they had opened the scoring only for the goal to be disallowed for a foul on keeper Imran Cooke – Chowdhary.

Following a series of neat passes, Isaiew broke free of the defence on twenty four minutes to find Jamie Fairchild who chipped the advancing Tullett to give Town the lead, their play deserved and which they took in to the interval.

Wasps started the second half strongly with Kieran Webb twice pulling good saves out of Cooke – Chowdhary. However, it was not long before their pressure paid dividends. Town pushed up from clearing a corner only for Wasps to cross the ball to the far post for Ryan Sweales to equalise in the fifty sixth minute.

Fairchild responded with a spectacular overhead kick that Tullett pushed away one handed.

The match then changed with Craig Hiscock receiving a second yellow card shortly followed by substitute Sam Cripps’ dismissal for a reckless challenge to leave Town facing eleven players before Chalfont’s’ Alfie Cumbers also saw a second yellow.

With Chalfont pressing for the winning goal, they were leaving one man in defence which encouraged Town to use Isaiew on the counter attack that proved profitable in his winning of the free kick that led to the decisive goal.

Town continued to survive the home team’s pressure and a “heart in mouth” moment when it was thought Dan Jewell had committed a foul in his own penalty area in the closing seconds, to take maximum points from the opening two games.
