Woodley started their first away match of the new year in the worst possible way when they fell behind to Holyport in the game's first attack. After rushing out of his area, United keeper Ben Hitchins headed clear a long ball over the top straight to Adam Wyatt; taking a touch the Holyport man coolly lofted the ball over Hitchins from twenty five yards into an empty net.
The home side continued to create chances. Paul Rake saw a low shot saved in the right corner following a cross from the right before Hitchins denied Dale Wright. With just eight minutes gone Woodley fell further behind when centre back Kriss Hemming was harshly penalised for a handball just inside the box. Rake stepped up and made no mistake from twelve yards with a shot into the bottom right corner.
United looked for a way back into the game; Fraser Mowat saw his shot from distance comfortably saved by Leo Smith before striker Seun Odusanya was clattered by Smith just outside the Holyport box after picking up a nicely clipped pass from Ryan Szram. The resulting free kick, taken by Mowat, just missed to the right.
The half ended with more Holyport pressure. Hemming did well to block a Jonny Feaver shot after Woodley gave away possession. Eight minutes before the break, Rake shot over whilst both Wright and Wyatt missed the target.
HT Holyport 2-0 Woodley United
The opening ten minutes of the second half were evenly contested. Unfortunately for Woodley they fell further behind on fifty five minutes when a low Wright drive from ten yards found the left corner.
At the other end, an Odusanya header was deflected wide off a Holyport player following a Conor Creegan corner. On sixty four minutes United were further punished when Wright got his second; cutting in from the right, he beat Hitchins at his near post with a low shot.
Woodley were really struggling to create anything. When they got into the final third, long range shots seemed to be the only option. A Mark Ingram shot from at least thirty yards was easily gathered by Smith.
Half way through the half, Holyport got their fifth when Wyatt added to his tally, turning home a rebound after Hitchins saved substitute Luke Dexter's initial effort. Before kicking off, Woodley made their first change when Zack Pearce replaced Jez West.
Despite the scoreline, Woodley fought on. Odusanya teed up Tyrone May who saw his shot from twenty five yards miss to the left. At the other end, Hitchins was off his line quickly to deny Feaver.
With fifteen minutes to go, United made another change when Chris Burt came on for Pete Wareing. The scoring was complete eight minutes later when Rake broke through the Woodley defence and finished with a shot into the left corner from the right side of the box.
