Decent second half showing sees Woodley pick up a point

Woodley went into the game against Wantage sitting three points behind their opponents. United gave debut's to goalkeeper Pete Davies and central midfielder Tyrone May.

The game started with both teams trading shots although neither goalie was forced to pull off a save. First a nice one-two between Bevan Van Wyk and Rupen Limbu ended with the former missing to the left from just inside the Wantage box. Then Ant Martin headed wide a left wing cross.

Sixteen minutes gone saw Woodley striker Sam Skehan shake clear his marker before firing a low shot that was saved whilst at the other end a shot was dragged wide from twenty two yards.

After half an hour Wantage were starting to get a hold off the game and were looking the more likely to find an opening. A perfectly weighted through ball saw Martin race clear; the Wantage striker lofted over both Davies and the bar but credit must go to the United goalie who was off his line quickly to give the forward little time.

Minutes later a nice move by the visitors saw James Thomas find space on the right of the box. Despite having time the Wantage player rushed his shot and sliced it wide.

With the half winding down Davies denied Martin diving to his right to keep out a firmly struck shot before Wantage went ahead in added time. United lost possession in their own box allowing Mauro Esteves to square to Martin who passed the ball into the net.

Starting the half well, Woodley nearly equalised within sixty seconds when a looping Skehan header just missed. Ten minutes later United were thankful for the linesman's flag when he ruled out a Esteves goal for offside.

Woodley were now the better side; looking dangerous in the final third. A deep Conor Creegan free kick found Van Wyk who curled his shot high and wide to the right. Just past the hour United made their first change when Ryan Szram replaced Limbu.

Mid way through the half saw Woodley get a deserved equaliser when a May corner found Szram at the back post. The Woodley winger helped the ball goalwards and it was Skehan who got the final touch from close range.

The only chance Wantage were able to muster in the second half saw Thomas miss to the right from twenty two yards after Woodley could only half clear a corner. Nineteen minutes left and Woodley made their second change; Skehan made way for Omar Cofie.

It was the newly introduced Cofie that had the games final clear cut chance. Breaking at pace Pete Wareing played in the Woodley forward who poked wide at full stretch. United made their final change with thirteen minutes left; Fraser Mowat came on for May.

The game's last chance fell to United's Mark Ingram. However the Woodley midfielder couldn't cap off his man of the match performance with the winner and shot over from outside the box.

United had to finish the match a player short when Van Wyk limped off after a heavy challenge. With all three subs used Woodley played the final five minutes with ten men.
