Second half goal rout sees Woodley well beaten

Woodley went in to the game against Penn & Tylers Green on the back of consecutive 2-0 losses. Their opponents sat second in the table with games in hand on table toppers Finchampstead.

Despite being at opposite ends of the table, the game started evenly with United slightly shading possession during the opening ten minutes. Woodley forward Sam Skehan had the game's first chance; missing to the left from outside the box.

The opening twenty five minutes saw the game being played in midfield, neither team able to find the killer ball. The first clear cut chance for the visitors saw Danny Jordan head wide after getting ahead of his marker at the near post from an inswinging corner.

Woodley then had two half chances in quick succession. First Ryan Szram shot wide from the right side of the box then a Nathanial Robinson free kick went over after Rupin Limbu was bought down just outside the box after a good run.

United fell behind eight minutes before the break when Jordan fired into the top right corner from a Lee Thompson pull back. A very well taken goal and one that they were to build on in the second half. Minutes later Penn nearly doubled their lead when a quickly taken free kick caught Woodley off guard; they were thankful to keeper Harry Stiff to bail them out, he was off his line quickly to narrow the angle and save from Adam Harman.

Minutes after the restart and Penn had the ball in the net for a second time; however Woodley were grateful to the linesman who had his flag up for offside and Casey Bocarro's goal was ruled out.

On fifty four minutes the away side did double their lead when a deep free kick wasn't dealt with by the home defence and Harman smashed into the roof of the net from ten yards. Six minutes later Stiff pulled off the save of the game when he remarkably was able to tip round a Harman header.

Penn were now completely on top, totally dominating possession and creating chance after chance. Naturally it was not long till they increased their lead; Bocarro lofted over Stiff from distance on sixty four minutes.

Eight minutes later and it was four. Woodley's failure to clear their lines allowed Jordan to place a low shot into the right corner from just inside the box. Woodley made a double change with seventeen minutes to go; Fraser Mowat and Graham High replaced Robinson and Mark Ingram.

The substitution nearly paid dividends when a Mowat shot from distance just missed to the left. Down the other end Penn further increased their lead and again it was down to Woodley's inability to play it out from the back. Giving the ball away on the edge of the box presented Penn sub George Weller with an opening, Stiff stood up to the shot well but fellow substitute Calum Coull was the first to react and buried the rebound.

With seven minutes left Penn completed the rout when Weller rolled the ball into the right corner after Woodley cheaply gave up the ball. The game ended with Mowat slicing wide and another Bocarro goal ruled out for offside.
