United started the match brightly; Rupen Limbu had the game's first chance, shooting over from outside the box. Continuing to look dangerous, Woodley came within inches of going ahead when a glancing Prince Alozie header from a Jordan Goddard free kick missed to the left.
Ten minutes in saw both teams hit the woodwork within minutes. First a Holyport shot cannoned back off the underside of the bar, then a Goddard free kick came back off the left post. Woodley keeper Dan Smith pulled off his first save of the game moments later diving to his right to deny the visitors after a deep free kick was headed goalwards.
Woodley continued to look the more dangerous of the two sides, playing their best football of the season so far. Lemar Maycock headed over at the far post then Bevan Van Wyk tested Dean Inscena in the Holyport goal with a drive from eighteen yards.
Twenty seven minutes in and United deservedly went ahead when Maycock showed great tenacity to score from close range after intercepting a clearance by Inscena. Looking to double their lead Limbu forced Inscena into another stop before a Sam Skehan cross was scrambled clear.
Woodley got their second eight minutes before the break. Alozie struck his shot from the right side of the box firmly but it went through Inscena who really should have done better. Six minutes later United capped off a tremendous half when Skehan smashed home from close range after a well worked short corner.
HT Woodley United 3-0 Holyport
The second half started in the worst possible way from a Woodley point of view when Holyport pulled one back from the spot. United full back Jordan Phillip was harshly penalised for handball when trying to block a left wing cross; Paul Rake made no mistake with the resultant penalty sending Smith the wrong way with a low shot to the right corner.
Despite the setback Woodley didn't panic and continued to press forward. A superb Goddard ball picked out Maycock who missed from a tight angle on the left. At the other end a difficult chance was sliced wide. ,
Fifty five minutes gone saw Woodley presented with a golden chance to increase their lead when Maycock somehow headed wide from six yards. Just past the hour Van Wyk was cautioned for a late challenge.
Woodley regained their three goal cushion on sixty nine minutes albeit briefly; centre back Luke Titcombe headed into the top left corner from an Alozie corner. Sixty seconds later saw Holyport once again narrow United's lead when a failure to clear saw Jack Banks pull one back.
Fifteen minutes from time saw Woodley complete the scoring when Titcombe got his second, heading in from a Goddard corner. The game ended with more Woodley pressure; Van Wyk saw his shot saved in the left corner after a decent United move, then a curling Conor Creegan shot just missed.
Woodley made their only change with four minutes to go. Sam Skehan who worked tirelessly up front made way for Sam Ellis. Minutes later the game ended with Woodley running out deserved winners and in the process picking up their first victory of the 2015/16 season.
