A brace from Robertson secures last day win

United ended the season on a high on Thursday evening with a fantastic second half comeback to win their third game in four. The three points against Old Woodstock Town means both sides are level on points and if Old Woodstock lose on Saturday by a two goal margin United will avoid finishing bottom.

After a cagey start, the visitors had the game's first shot; Tom Nee saw his effort from distance saved in the top right corner by Ben Hitchins. The first goalmouth action from Woodley saw Andy Herbert try to find Curt Robertson but the United centre back, who was forward for a set piece, couldn't get to the ball before Old Woodstock keeper Mike Bawn who comfortably gathered.

Woodley's first attempt on goal saw Luke Nichols' effort from twenty five yards blocked before the same player fired a shot into the wall from a free kick. Mid-way through the half United had a let off when a cushioned header set Patrick Beckford through on goal; despite having time he badly sliced his shot wide.

Old Woodstock were definitely looking the brighter of the two sides despite this being their third game in six days. Hitchins was called into action to deny Beckford with a smart save in the right corner.

On twenty nine minutes the away side took the lead with a fantastic strike. Picking up the ball a good thirty yards out Tom Woodbridge smashed an unstoppable shot into the top left corner. Three minutes later their advantage was doubled when Beckford coolly finished from left side of the box.

The pitch was not helping Woodley, with dribbling and passing made difficult by the bobbly surface. Showing good anticipation to cut out a backpass, Herbert was unlucky to see the ball take a horrible bounce off the pitch and go out for a goal kick before he could cross it.

Two minutes before the break, United finally forced Bawn into a good stop when he denied Herbert with a point blank save after the Woodley man headed goalwards a long throw by captain Brad Hoy.

After some early pressure from Old Woodstock which saw a Callum Green shot saved and Robertson clear a corner, Woodley started to take control. Matt Lambert missed to the left from twenty yards. On fifty six minutes United made their first change when Ben Anderson came on for Tyrone May. This saw Herbert drop into a deeper role and Anderson join Nichols up front.

Just before the hour, a powerful Robertson shot from a corner was well saved by Bawn diving to his right before Nichols missed to the left. More pressure followed when a fantastic run by Anderson was only halted by a foul on the young forward. Herbert stepped up to take the resultant free kick and forced another good save out of Bawn.

With the next attack Woodley got back into the game when Robertson scored from close range after a gaol mouth scramble. Three minutes later the scores were level when Lambert smashed into the left corner from the right side of the box to register his second goal in three days.

United made their second change with nineteen minutes to go when Rupen Limbu replaced Tim Green on the left wing. Old Woodstock were now looking very fatigued as the game entered its final fifteen minutes; the only chances they were able to muster were a couple of headers from set pieces that didn't trouble Hitchins.

Three minutes left saw Woodley make their final change when Nichols came off for Fraser Mowat. With a minute of normal time left United completed their comeback when Robertson got his second when he flicked home a deep free kick by Hitchins.
