Woodley improve after the break but suffer heavy defeat

With the game being played in difficult conditions, with sweeping winds it was United who had the games first chance; Matt Brookling saw his shot from twenty yards blocked. Six minutes in the home side went ahead when Freddie Barron turned in from close range following a low cross from the right.

Minutes later in should have been two when another low cross from the right went through a sea of bodies to find Scott Hunter. Unaware of the space he was in he rushed his shot and dragged it wide of the left post.

On ten minutes the home side did get their second when Danny Blatchford found the left corner with a nice shot from just outside the box. Looking for an immediate response Woodley's Daniel McLeod-Walker missed to the right from thirty plus yards.

Just before the twenty minute mark a nice move by United ended with Luke Titcombe testing Tom Bryant in the home goal after the Woodley captain picked up a neat pass from full back Matt Leigh.

Finchampstead made it three on the half hour when a cross from the right was converted at the second attempt by Harry Swabey. The half ended with more pressure from the hosts; Woodley keeper Kriss Hemmings kept his side in the game with saves from Swabey, Blatchford and Barron.

HT Finchampstead 3-0 Woodley United

United started the second half in the perfect way when Brookling pulled one back after receiving a pass from Tim Green. Woodley were the better team for the first twenty minutes since the restart; however the closest they came to further cutting Finchampstead's lead was when a Mark Ingram shot sailed over.

Sixty six minutes gone and the home side restored their three goal advantage when Barron slid in a low Swabey cross at the back post. With eighteen minutes left Woodley made a double change when Graham High and Fraser Mowat replaced Leigh and McLeod-Waker.

The home side continued to press. Swabey came within inches of getting his second when a low shot from the right side of the box cannoned of the left post. With six minutes to go Finchampstead got their fifth and once again it came from a right wing cross. This time it was Greg Alexander who got his name on the score sheet after getting to the ball first.

FT Finchampstead 5-1 Woodley United
