The final away league match of the season was at a youthful Farnborough Reserves, who like Town are one of the division’s form sides and in Dan Bowden possess the league’s leading goal scorer. Therefore, a close game full of chances was expected and the match did not disappoint with Town having the majority of goal scoring opportunities but in Craig Beales had the busier of the two goal keepers.
Both goals came in the opening twelve minutes with Luke Williams chipping the advancing Farnborough keeper Donald Brooks on two minutes following a through ball from Warren Baxter and Josh Daniels equalising ten minutes later when the home team out number Town allowing Louis Bell to find Daniels unmarked in the penalty area to drive a shot pass Beales.
Farnborough enjoyed the next ten minutes with their passing resulting in Town seeing little of the ball and Andrew Nunn being called upon on more than one occasion to make important tackles.
A change in formation that allowed Jamie Fairchild to become more influential and Williams more of the ball enabled Woodley to get a foot hold in the match but to often the wingers good work was undone due to lack of support for him.
Jamie Fairchild saw Brooks tip a shot over the bar while Bell hit Town’s cross bar before Williams found first half substitute Chris Waring unmarked, only for the striker to tamely shot wide of the post.
The second half was much the same with both teams seeking the winning goal. Town started strongly through Davies and Dan Jewell while a combination of good work by Beales and last gasp tackling by Warren Baxter and Matt Belcher denied Bell and Bowden on more than one occasion.
Town’s best effort fell to Williams who left the defence flat footed and rounded Brooks, who was outside the goal area, only for a moments hesitation on the uneven surface to allow a covering defender to clear the goal bound shot.
In the dying minutes Jordan Pearce cleared a Davies shot for a corner and a share of the points in a match neither side deserved to lose.
Town have proved worthy opponents on their travels this season having been beaten only three times in the League and all these losses being in August.
