Woodley faced Kintbury Rangers at home and needed a win to return to third position with Milton United not in action.
The game was even in the opening stages but Woodley had the first chance as Tom Williams played a neat one two and then drilled his shot over the cross bar.
Kintbury responded with Curtis Angell floating a ball over the Town’s cross bar which was followed by Jim Nightingale deflecting another Kintbury effort over the bar.
Luke Williams had a good opportunity parried by Rangers’ keeper Kane Roberts only for Tom Williams’ follow up to go wide.
The game had not been a dirty one but two players were given their marching orders following an incident off the ball in Town’s half while Woodley were attacking deep in Kintbury territory. Dan Jewell saw red for the second game in succession, as he and Rocky Rowbottom were dismissed leaving it ten v ten for the remaining fifty-five minutes of the match.
After a lack lustre half compared to recent performances, Woodley looked the more threatening in the second half following the introduction of Nick Edwards to give more drive to the midfield which in turn saw plenty of chances to score.
Luke Williams did make the break through as he started the move to set Carl Davies free and the front man pulled the ball back for Williams to score on fifty one minutes with a low shot to Roberts’ right. The chances kept coming for the home side as Lyle Smith, on his debut, crossed low to Tom Williams who somehow failed to score at the far post.
Jamie Fairchild headed just wide from a set piece and Smith turned his man and hit a good shot that Roberts just managed to keep hold off as Edwards looked certain to score. Luke Williams made it two nil when he ran straight down the middle of the pitch and calmly side footed past Roberts on eighty minutes..
Woodley had a moment when Kintbury came close to pulling a goal back when Robert McLay hit a good strike that struck the post as Oneal Garnes was stranded and went back across goal to safety. When James Varndell fouled his man to give away a penalty in the eighty fifth minute, McLay did reduce the arrears with a neatly dispatched kick. Woodley looked comfortable though and Edwards should have done better having been picked out by Davies at the far post while defender Warren Baxter shot wide after a marauding run.
Woodley are now on a winning streak of eight league games in a row and travel to Rayners Lane next Saturday.
