Richard Thomas, Jim Nightingale, Carl Davies

Woodley travelled to South Kilburn to try and avenge the December home defeat to the Londoners.

In a game that was made tricky by a very uneven surface Town got off to a bright start when Dan Jewell, who was causing problems down the right, was fouled. Luke Williams delivered a testing ball that South Kilburn failed to deal with and Richard Thomas scored on his return to the starting line up as he wrong footed the unsighted keeper Chris Christie with his shot on five minutes.

Thomas could have had a first half hat-trick. Luke Williams curled in another free kick that Thomas just failed to direct on goal with a free header. From a corner directed back across goal by Nick Edwards, Thomas had a header saved at point blank range by Christie.

South Kilburn were attacking prominently down the right wing and they had a good chance to level on the quarter hour as the ball was laid back twelve yards out but the shot was wild.

As to be expected on a poor surface the play became scrappy and Town found possession difficult to maintain possession. However, they remained dangerous with Luke and Tom Williams involved in much of Town’s attacking play.

It was another Luke Williams’ free kick on twenty nine minutes that saw Christie fail to hold the ball which allowed Jim Nightingale to strike the ball into the bottom corner from close range.

Good passing allowed Jewell to have two shots off target from decent positions as Town sought to extend their lead as the home side rarely threatened.

The second half saw South Kilburn show more intent going forward which allowed Craig Hiscock to put in a man of the match performance as he contained the main threat posed by the Londoners.

With the next goal looking important Carl Davies was introduced and he got his goal shortly after entering the game. It was a good move involving Tom Williams and Davies took his shot early to beat Christie, on sixty five minutes, as he advanced.

The goal took the urgency out of South Kilburn, who despite seeing Nick Brethounx hit the crossbar with a brilliant strike at goal and Eric Hamilton head over, caused Oneal Garnes little trouble.

Town finished the match in the ascendancy with Luke Williams, Jewell and Chris Hatton enjoying plenty of freedom in the South Kilburn half of the field enabling Town to record their eighth league win on the road this year.

Next up is a trip on Thursday evening to Premier Division Witney Utd in a second round Bluefin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup tie.

Garnes, Baxter, Thomas (Nunn), Edwards, Nightingale, Hiscock, Jewell, Hatton, Fairchild (Davies), T Williams (Varndell), L Williams
