Late Dallarda goal sees Woodley do the double over Chalfont

Town started the game playing 4-4-2 with both Steven Campbell and George Dallarda up front. It was the latter who produced the game's first chance; a free kick from twenty five yards was gathered by Cameron Edwin in the Chalfont goal at the second attempt.

The visitors' first shot saw them take the lead. Woodley carelessly gave away possession just outside their box to Chalfont forward Tom Williams who took the gift well, slotting into the bottom left corner. Looking for an immediate response, Dallarda fired well over whilst at the other end Town keeper Dan Smith was off his line quickly to thwart Williams.

It was danger man Williams who had the game's next chance, slicing wide of Smith's right post. The game was swinging from one end to the other and when it was Town's turn to go forward they levelled the game, albeit in slightly fortuitous circumstances. A corner from the left found Michael Alleyne who saw his effort blocked by Edwin; the keeper's parry hit Steven Campbell and ended up in the net!

Midway through the half, Alleyne was harshly booked after a challenge on the halfway line. Town were now on top; Dallarda saw a dangerous free kick headed clear before Woodley took the lead. Campbell's cross from the left found its way to Alleyne who took a touch before finishing neatly into the right corner from twenty yards. Looking to increase the lead, Dallarda picked up a Doug Groves pass only to see his shot flash wide of the right post.

Thirty three minutes in and it was all square. An optimistic ball over the top found Lewis Cumber who finished superbly, lofting the ball over Smith from the left side of the box. Chalfont ended the half strongly; firstly Town could only clear for a corner before Smith showed good hands catching a cross from the left.

HT Woodley Town 2-2 Chalfont Wasps

Woodley started the half with a strong claim for a penalty. Campbell picked up a Dallarda through ball from the left and rounded Edwin; the Chalfont stopper appeared to trip the Town striker but the ref was having none of it and gave a goal kick.

Minutes later Town made their first change when Andres Rodriguez made way for Tafari Downes. This saw a slight tweak in personnel with Jon Malone dropping to full back and Downes playing right midfield. Ten minutes into the half and there was a lengthy stoppage when Gary Smith was clattered inside the Chalfont half after a good run. Fortunately for Town their captain was able to continue.

Looking to regain the lead, Campbell headed over a David Stevens free kick from the right before being unable to control a Groves pass that would have seen the striker in on goal. With seventeen minutes to play, Chalfont had the ball in the net but the linesman came to Woodley's rescue and ruled it out.

At the other end, Alleyne saw his effort from distance go wide before Lewis Cumber shot straight at Smith from the left side of the box; however the Chalfont player clearly thought he had been fouled in the midst of getting his shot away.

With the game winding down, a good run by Downes down the right ended with a Chalfont tackle that Malone was able to pick up just outside the box. His low cross found Dallarda who could not make a clean contact and Chalfont were able to clear.

Town made their penultimate change with thirteen minutes left. Sam Barham replaced Doug Groves and Woodley changed to 4-3-3 with Dallarda and Downes either side of Campbell and Barham joining Stevens and Alleyne in midfield.

The game was on a knife edge with the next goal surely being the winner. Chalfont forward Jake Bowyer made good contact with a half volley from eighteen yards but could only direct his shot straight at Smith who saved easily. Town then were presented with a half chance after a good run from Barham into the Chalfont box; picking out David Stevens on the edge of the box, the Woodley midfielder saw his shot blocked by a yellow and black shirt.

With six minutes to go, Town made their final change when Campbell made way for Simon Kemp. This saw Jordan Goddard go to left wing, Dallarda return to his original position and Kemp play left back. Four minutes later Town went ahead for the second time when Dallarda scored directly from a corner on the left!

The match ended with a few Woodley half chances. Alleyne saw his effort from the edge of the box miss to the right before a sublime Downes cross from the right somehow evaded anyone in a pale blue shirt.

FT Woodley Town 3-2 Chalfont Wasps

Town manager Damien Marshall had the following to say after the game: 'I'm ultimately pleased to get the three points. However we were certainly guilty of dropping the standards we have set in the last couple of weeks. Although we scored three goals today I still think we need to add a killer instinct to our game and start cutting out silly mistakes. On the plus side Steven Campbell worked his socks off today and is my man of the match. I'd also like to praise Tafari Downes who made a huge difference when he came on'.
