Woodley Town ended 2014 in disastrous fashion today, soundly beaten 4-0 at Scours Lane by Penn & Tylers Green.

Town started the game playing 4-4-2 with Seun Odusanya partnering Steven Campbell up front.

The visitors started well; a shot from 18 yards was deflected just wide of the left post. The following corner was whipped into the near post and scrambled clear. Four minutes in and Penn took the lead. A deep cross from the left was uncharacteristically spilled by Town keeper Dan Smith; with the Woodley defence absent, Adrian Smith pounced to score the game's first goal.

Town's first opportunity fell to Odusanya who shot straight at Jamie Jackson after a good run down the left by Doug Groves. Penn were definitely looking the more dangerous in the early stages. Town centre back Andreas Rodriguez Gutirrez had to be at full stretch to cut out a through ball whilst Smith pulled of a good stop diving to his right to thwart Jonathan Feaver.

At the other end an Adam Cashin-Murray free kick missed to the right after Odusanya had been bundled over just outside the Penn box. Fifteen minutes in and Town were starting to get into the game. Odusanya showed good strength on the left; several passes later the ball found its way to Victor Martinez Murillo who blazed over when well placed. Three minutes later Odusanya forced Jackson make a smart save after a low drive.

Just before the half hour a beautiful cross field pass found Adrian Smith; his layoff was firmly struck by Feaver, but Dan Smith was positioned well and stopped the visitors doubling their lead. Town were then presented with a golden chance to level the game. A free kick on the left found Groves who headed over unmarked from four yards out. Woodley did have the ball in the net five minutes before the break when Cashin-Murray finished well; unfortunately for Town the whistle had already gone for a foul. That brought an end to a half where Woodley struggled to create chances.

Town got the second half under way and had the first chance since the restart, David Stevens shooting over from distance. On the fifty third minute Penn doubled their lead. Chris Hursts' through ball found Feaver who broke Town's offside trap; one on one with Smith he finished coolly, slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

The goal forced a Town reshuffle. Michael Alleyne replaced Martinez Murillo and the formation was changed to 4-3-3 with Steven Campbell moving out to the right wing. Woodley tried their best to get back in the game; a nice move involving Ben Gonzalez, Alleyne and Cashin-Murray came to nothing then Penn defender Adam Parsons did fantastically to deny Odusanya with a beautifully timed tackle.

Twenty minutes to go and Cashin-Murray shot straight at Jackson from twenty two yards. Minutes later Hurst dragged a shot wide of the right post after he picked up a pass from Feaver. Knowing that the next goal was crucial Town desperately pushed forward. A Stevens free kick went into the wall, the rebound was picked up by Groves who shot into the side netting. Thirteen minutes left and Woodley made a double change. Jordan Goddard and Campbell made way for Matt Brookling and Sam Barham. The change in personnel saw the formation tweaked again with Brookling joining Rodriguez and Town skipper Gary Smith as part of a back three.

Pressing forward, Parsons again denied Odusanya with a block then Cashin-Murray shot over from twenty five yards out whilst Brookling did well to cut out a Penn pass that would have seen Hurst going one on one with Dan Smith. The Woodley stopper then pulled off the save of the match diving to his right to deny the visitors. With a minute to go it was game over; Josh Fox got his team's third with a driven shot from the left side of the box, then in stoppage time Penn rubbed salt into Woodley's wounds getting their fourth when Hurst rounded Smith before rolling the ball into the empty net.
