Tom Williams 2, Jamie Fairchild, Luke Williams, Jim Nightingale, Adam Jeffrey

Woodley had a break from the league schedule and faced Wantage Town Reserves in the Berks and Bucks Cup in a match containing some of Town’s best football of the season.

Town started brightly with Tom Williams and Luke Williams beating their men and causing danger with their runs but had to survive a scar on ten minutes when Warren Baxter was caught in possession and needed his fellow centre back Jim Nightingale to make a saving tackle to prevent the Wantage forward entering the penalty area.

The lead came on nineteen minutes with a well worked team goal after a succession of passes from one side of the pitch to the other, involving nearly everyone in the team. Left back Richard Thomas fed the ball to Tom Williams and he slipped in Jamie Fairchild who scored with an assured first touch side foot.

With Luke Williams running the defence ragged Wantage Town were limited to one effort in the whole first half which was dragged across goal and wide. However, for all their pressure Woodley did not double the lead until the forty third minute.

From a corner, Tom Williams header towards goal came back of the cross bar but Tom Williams was on hand to head in the rebound. Carl Davies had a couple of half chances go wide and Fairchild had an excellent chance nicked off his toes as he delayed.

Two up at the break, Adam Jeffery was brought on in place of the injured Nick Edwards and he wasted no time in getting involved in the action. With Jeffery and Luke Williams on either flank, Woodley were impressive as an attacking force and blew Wantage away with the movement and skill of these players.

Keeper Ben Rose made a fine reaction save from a rare Wantage attack ten minutes into the second half and from the save Davies found Jeffrey whose pass to the far left hand post was met by Luke Williams to fire home and cap an excellent individual performance.

Tom Williams got his second two minutes latter in similar fashion, firing in at the far post to make it 4 -0 from a Davies cross.

Some slack play cost Woodley a goal on sixty five minutes when Nightingale took a risk in taking on Rob Joyce on the edge of his penalty area and the forward pinched the ball and scored.

Jeffery nearly got his name on the score sheet when his lob from a Davies cross was cleared of the goal line but the fifth came on seventy minutes when Nightingale atoned for his mistake by heading home from a corner kick.

Substitute Steven Campbell had an excellent chance after the hard working Davies crossed for a great headed opportunity, but Campbell missed the target, while Fairchild hit curled an effort onto the post as Woodley looked to score whenever they attacked.

Wantage pulled another goal back when an unmarked Brad Ritchie was left eight yards out to leave a furious Ben Rose with no chance in the Woodley goal.

The scoring was completed on eighty four minutes when Jeffery got his name on the score sheet with a good shot from the edge of the area after cutting in to make the score 6-2 in an all action performance from Woodley, who travel to Penn and Tylers Green for their return to league action.

Rose (Garnes), Varndell, Thomas, Edwards (Jeffrey), Nightingale. Baxter, L Williams (Campbell), Hiscock, Fairchild, Davies, T Williams
