Danny Isaiew 3, Luke Williams, Jamie Fairchild, Paul Holloway

Woodley Town was comfortable winners against a youthful in form Binfield Reserves who had beaten Reading Football League sides West Reading and Theale to progress to the third round.

The opening half hour saw Binfield play good football but with most of it in their own half, they created little threat on Town’s goal and it was the home team who had the best two chances during this period with Richard Thomas driving wide from a Luke Williams cross on five minutes followed by Jamie Fairchild shortly afterwards.

The deadlock was broken on thirty two minutes when good wide play by Williams saw him cross low from the left for Danny Isaiew to score from close range at the far post. Isaiew doubled the lead six minutes later when he reacted quickest to a free kick taken on the edge of the Binfield penalty area following a foul on Dan Jewell, whose runs from full back caused the Binfield defence increasing problems.

An injury to Adam Jeffrey saw Sam Cripps introduced on the right wing for the start of the second half and his powerful runs into the Binfield half saw Cripps being instrumental in much of Town’s second half play as they took the game to their opponents straight from the restart.

Binfield’s Jamie Halsall parried from Jamie Connor only for the Woodley player to put his second attempt wide, Nick Edwards twice blazed over from short distance, Halsall made a fine one handed save from Cripps while Warren Baxter was denied his first competitive goal for the club when his header was cleared off the goal line.

Amongst this activity Williams added a third for Town on fifty two minutes when good passing through out the team saw the winger drive low to Halsall’s left from the edge of the eighteen yard box.

Cripps and Williams started to stretch the defence that allowed Isaiew to complete his hat trick from a tight angle on seventy three minutes.

Fairchild scored from close range from another Williams cross eight minutes from time, with substitute Paul Holloway completing the scoring in the eight fifth minute with a powerful run at the defence for his first goal for the club.

After a run of seven home games, Town visit Rayners Lane this weekend in league action.
